The Rise Of Green Superfood Drink Powders

Green Superfood drink powders are a fast-growing part of the nutritional supplement industry. The masses have become increasingly aware of the need to consume more quality fruits and vegetables to achieve higher levels of health, but let’s face it, who has the time?

The juicing trend has exploded… juicing machine sales are enjoying a meteoric rise in sales over the last 24 months, but juicing machines tend to wind up collecting dust in the back of cabinets. Why? Because we’re too busy, that’s why.

Think about it. We know that juicing raw fruits and vegetables is perhaps the healthiest thing we can do for our bodies. So we decide that we are going to do it. We buy a $200 juicer. We go to the grocery store and buy $30-$40 of quality organic produce… spinach, broccoli, carrots, celery, kale. Expensive, but it’s good for us.

Then we make that first smoothie. Chop and wash the veggies, flip the switch, watch the magic juice appear in the glass, drink it down and convince ourselves that we can live with the taste because it’s so good for us.

And, we’re done! We did it. Oh wait… now we have to clean up. We break down the machine, get all the pulp out of the tricky places, pack up the machine and feel awesome!

Fast-forward one week… we made a second smoothie on day two, skipped day three and four because we were late for work and got home and were just too tired to mess with the hassle. Day five we completely forgot… Day six, guilt sets in so we take out all the veggies from the fridge and realize, half of them our moldy.

Fast-forward three weeks… our Craigslist ad reads “Barely Used Juicing Machine”.

If you’ve tried the juicing route, then you know that what I’m saying is true… or at least partly true. I’m not saying that we should give up on juicing, but in order to make it a consistent part of our daily existence, juicing is a commitment. A huge commitment. Like owning a pony.

Is it any wonder why superfood drink powders have resonated with so many people?

“So instead of all that tediousness of juicing, all I have to do is mix a scoop of that funky green powder in a glass of water and shoot it down? I’m all in! “

But that begs the question; can a powder be as beneficial as fresh, raw, water-rich fruits and vegetables? Pretty darn close, and in some cases, it can actually be healthier.

Depending on the type of ingredients, source of produce, manufacturing methods and other factors, some green superood drink powders can not only come close to the nutritional equivalent as fresh produce, but because of other ingredients that are added, they can even deliver more nutrition than you can possibly get from juicing produce. But let’s not get carried away here. Like any other type of manufactured product, there is a broad range of quality. Buyer beware.

There are a few factors you want to consider when purchasing a superfood drink powder.

1. Read the Label

Sounds like a no-brainer but some people don’t. Others do, but really don’t understand what they’re looking at.

You want a product that has the following three components under the “superfood” section… greens from leafy vegetables (spinach, broccoli, kale, carrots), grasses (wheatgrass, alfalfa, barley) and sea vegetables or algae (chlorella, spirulina, dulse).

Having all three components generally mean that you are getting a well-rounded, balanced superfood supplement.

When taking a green superfood drink powder, it’s always good to look and see if they include probiotics and digestive enzymes. Probiotics are friendly-bacteria that are extremely helpful to achieve a healthy bowel ecosystem. Digestive enzymes will help you get the maximum nutrient absorption. Most quality green superfood drink powders will have these.

2. Price

You get what you pay for. If you find a superfood drink powder that is under $30, my advice is move on. To manufacture a high-quality superfood supplement, using high-quality ingredients in the potencies that will have the most impact on the body, it’s expensive. But so is buying organic produce in large quantities at Whole Foods.

Understand too, that some products will only have the superfoods and will not have things like added protein, antioxidants, enzymes and probiotics. There are some very good products out there that have just the greens, grasses and algae and nothing else. Obviously, these will be less expensive than the products that are all-inclusive.

3. Taste

Taste is subjective. There’s a whole group of consumers out there who are hard-core health enthusiasts who are used to juicing and used to taking wheatgrass shots and typically, they couldn’t care less about taste. This is the minority. Most people struggle with green superfood drink powders. Find a high-quality product that you can adjust to the taste. Most people who drink these, me included, mix the powder in organic fruit juice, along with fresh fruit and ice, and make a smoothie. It helps.

4. Read online reviews

There’s a lot of good review sites out there that have made it easy to make an educated decision on which green superfood drink powder is right for you. I’ve created my own review site and the reviewed-product list is growing everyday.

For a large percentage of people, superfood drink powders can be an ideal way to fill-the-dietary-gap by not eating enough raw fruits and vegetables. Superfood drinks have changed my life. Do your research and go find the right one for you.
