Tips for Making Healthy Drinks

There is a lot of writing on juicing in the press lately.

The health benefits of getting freshly squeezed fruit and vegetables juice in your body is tremendous.

When you decide to make the transition in your and your family's life, it is necessary to give time for those changes to be implemented and for your body to get used to it. The transition takes time and patience. You might start juicing at first only on weekends, when you have got more time to experiment and to wash the juicer.

Start simple. Use at first just a few ingredients. Apple, carrot, orange and celery are great to start. Add lemon to improve taste and for health benefits. You will find lots of great recipes online.

Once you have a few favorite recipes and you become more organized with shopping, washing and storing your fruits and vegetables, your time spent of juicing will significantly reduce. That painful time you need to spend on taking apart and washing the juicer will be compensated by the energy and feeling of well-being within a short period of time, believe me!

When you adopt a healthier lifestyle, you not only help yourself and the people around you but also help to make the world a healthier place. The more we improve own own diet, the more food manufacturers, supermarkets and restaurants take notice of what we want.

I am sure you remember times when being a vegetarian was a 'hippy thing'. How things have changed since! Now almost every restaurant serves vegetarian meals.

Daily juicing might appear a little radical too to some but soon it will be perfectly accepted way to get good nutrition to our body. Sunlight is the driving force of the cells of our body. Eating plant based food and juicing those plants provides our cells with the incredible power of the sun's energy.

Given that our bodies require the sun's energy and knowing that plants are the most available form of the sun's energy, it is obvious that the best nutrition for the human body is living plants.

Juicing has lots of long-term health benefits. It is easy to get used to juicing because the body responds positively almost right away. You feel an instant energy hit. Nutrition gets to our cells 15 minutes later so it is a very quick absorption!

Here are a few tips in order to make the highest-quality, most nutritious juices possible:

Keep your drink making equipment clean and dry to avoid contamination. Some juices may discolor the equipment. This will not affect the performance of your appliance. Some discoloration can be removed with a cloth dipped in vegetable oil. Chopped apple is also good to get rid of odors and color staining.

Whenever possible, drink or use the juices immediately so as not to lose their nutritional content. Enzymes and some vitamins are easily destroyed by air and light. If you do need to store the juice, keep it in a glass jar with the lid tightened and store it in the fridge. Make sure that your juice has lemon in it, it will help with preservation.

Drink your juice on empty stomach around at least 30 minutes before meal or/and before bed at least an hour after your last meal.

Choose the best quality, preferably organic produce for making your drinks. You are aiming for good health and health improvement so anything that is wilted, bruised, damaged or lacking color you don't want to use. You obviously want to avoid chemicals and pesticides so buying organic will get you the purest and cleanest produce possible.

It is an advice from the big juicer experts to add lemon or lime (Vitamin C and great antioxidant) and ginger (warming, antiseptic, aids digestion) to every juice. It has a great health benefit and they improve the taste of the juices, especially when you are drinking all vegetables juices. I always include them in my juices plus whenever I can, add turmeric (reduces inflammation).

Happy juicing!

Cheers, Piroska

Street Talk

Nice article buddy. Gives me a new lease on my juicing activities. I use tumeric readily and t does work.I also heard recently that red peppers (capsicum) has more vitamin C in them than oranges and lemons. If I can recall I heard this on Doctor Oz show. I also no longer store any juices in my fridge. I have given up on that laziness.

Hi Brendan, thanks! Food be thy medicine :) I grew up using paprika to cook with an it is full of Vitamin C! I am just investigating and experimenting with Ghee, and so far I am totally amazed and converted from day one. Until now I used coconut oil but this is even better. Look into it. Juicing, spices and herbs, infusions of herbs, Nature is amazing. We don't need pills and supplements, it's all there in food. Have fun getting healthier :)

Christie!

Enjoyed your article. I make fruit smoothies with kale, berries, nuts, and chia seeds. With juicing do you get a higher quantity of nutrients than with a smoothie?

Hi Christie, my understanding is that the key is in the quick absorbtion of nutrients when you drink juice and it is very easy on the digestive system.

Thanks Des! It is well worth investing into a juicer and start doing it every day. To get great results, drink at least 1 liter vegetable juice daily. A few months and you will feel like a new person! It is amazing! Look forward to hearing your results in a couple of months' time! Kind regards, Piroska :)
