I have written about vitamins and supplements, but I have not touched on what exactly certain vitamins are good for. If one is having a health issue what do we take? Like I said before and I will say it again, consult your primary doctor for help with your vitamin and mineral supplements. I can't stress this enough. You may decide to take a particular vitamin and maybe your system does not really need it. It does not hurt any to read and become informed. No one is going to take charge of your health and wellness except yourself.
It is not too bad if what you are taking is a water-soluble vitamin. The worst that will happen is that you waste your money because what the body does not need it will excrete the vitamin via the kidneys. But, if you start taking oil soluble vitamins and the body does not need them it does not get rid of them, they are stored in the body and if you take too much you can become toxic and run into problems. So please consult your doctor first.
I have done a lot of searching in the past about exactly what certain vitamins are good for. Don't expect immediate results when you take vitamin or supplements as sometimes it will take many weeks before you see results. Most of my research was done through Prevention information and The Cornell Encyclopedia of Health. These are wonderful books to learn and glean information from. Through the years I indexed each vitamin into a kardex. If I need instant information it is right there and handy.
Let's start with Vitamin A (fat soluble). From what I have read you do not want to combine Vitamin A with mineral oil, as the oil will absorb the vitamin and it will be excreted in the urine because mineral oil is one oil that is not absorbed by the body. Vitamin A, they say will help to improve your eyesite. It is good for sinus problems. Some people develop granules on the eye lids and Vitamin A is good for getting rid of this.
Vitamin A and C and F will help to fight infection and is good for acne.
The mineral Zinc helps to balance the acid and alkaline in the body. Selenium prevents premature aging. According to Prevention if you have an absorption problems like colitis, cirrhosis or an alcohol history then vitamin A would help.
Some minerals do not need to be supplemented such as Aluminum. It's function is necessary for proper body function. But our bodies need so little of this that no supplement is needed. People who have allergies need potassium and vitamin C.
If the doctor has said that you have anemia or some form of anemia you are lacking in iron, cobalt, copper vitamin T, E and B5. If you suffer from anorexia, then biotin is good. Amino Acids with niacinamide and vitamin B6 may block craving for sweets and help hypoglycemia. Appendicitis has been linked to a low fiber diet.
Zinc and chromium is good for Arteriosclerosis. chromium is also good for hypoglycemic. It helps to level out blood sugars. My son was on chromium for hypoglycemia and we did see a difference in how he felt.
I will go through my kardex so that I can pass on information that I have learned over the years. This is also a good refresher for me. So meet me in my next article and i will continue.
Here's to your imporved health and wellness
