Vitamins, What Are They Good For? #2
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

In the last of my articles I started to explain just what vitamins are good for. I explained that for many years I read all I could on what different ailments require different vitamins and minerals to help relieve symptoms. I have believed for many years what our family's old traditional doctor used to tell us, that if you follow the food pyramid and eat the correct amounts of foods from all food groups daily then your body is going to get the vitamins and minerals that it should have to sustain a long healthy life.

I felt that I wanted to share with you my years of reading and indexing vitamins and what they are good for. I have indexed starting with A and ending with Z. I am not giving recommendations but only passing on years of reading and information that I thought might be helpful to you. There are a lot of good sources at the library and on the internet about vitamins and minerals but your very best source of information is your own doctor. Continue to read and be informed about what you are talking about and what you have learned. Let your doctor know how well versed you really are.

My sources of information have been *The Cornell Encyclopedia of Health and *Prevention. Both sources have just about all you could ever want to know. But, don't stop there. Keep exploring other avenues.

The next class I am going to write about is indexed under B. Vitamin B17 or Laetrile. This vitamin is made from Apricot pits. At the time that I took this information it was still very controversial. The function of this vitamin was to promote heathy cells. A deficiency in this vitamin may lead to diminished resistance to cancer. When shopping the food sources that would supply this vitamin is whole kernels of apricots, apples, cherries, peaches, plums and nectarines. No toxic levels had been established were several years ago. Now researchers are saying that this is pur quackery related to cancer cures. This used to be considered a vitamin and is no longer considered as such. The FDA now considers this a highly dangerous and toxic substance and will seek jail sentences to vendors who are found marketing this substance. There also has been no effect found on treating cancer.

Vitamin B5 or Panathenaic Acid is best found in honey bee's "royal Jelly". Vitamin B5 is destroyed by alcohol, heat and baking soda. We need Vitamim B5 for proper growth, reproduction, healthy skin and hair. Viatmain B5 helps to keep the nervous system strong and also helps relieve stress.. If we have a deficiency in Vitamin B5 we may experience dry skin and premature facial wrinkles. We may have severe eczema, premature gray hair and baldness. Anemia symptoms may be observed. And, signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia.

If you have ever peeled and orange I bet you take all the while inner peeling off also found under the outer peeling. By removing this white inner skin we are removing all the flavonoids. This is needed to help absorb Vitamin C in the body. Vitamin C is also good for one who bruises easily. They used to say that 3000 mg per day of Bioflavonoids would help to decrease joint pain. So next time you peel that orange keep the white part of the orange on.

Biotin or coenzyme R or Vitamin H is a water-soluble vitamin. If you eat raw eggs (I don't suggest this) the raw eggs will prevent absorption by the body. The function of Biotin is essential for metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Biotin is necessary for healthy skin and it helps in keeping hair color and preventing baldness. It helps to ease muscle pain. If you have a deficiency in Biotin you may experience nausea, mental depression, dry scaly dermatitis and anorexia.

If you want to build red blood cells then Cobalt is needed.

If you have a destruction of red blood cells Vitamin E is helpful.

People with Anemia would probably have an Iron and Copper deficiency.

To assure that your blood coagulates well we need enough Calcium and Vitamin T

According to Prevention if you need to lower your high blood pressure the 3 Tablespoons of Cod Liver Oil per day, yellow onions, garlic, evening primrose and potassium is helpful.

If you have soft bones and teeth then you probably could use Calcium, Vitamin D, Phosphorus and Florine

To increase brain function, sulfur and zinc is helpful.

Boron and Bromine is necessary for proper body function, but there is no need for supplement.

If you get burned Vitamin E is good to use.

Vitamin B Compex is needed to rebuild the central nervous system after a stroke. If you have a Vitamin B deficiency you can develop cataracts.

Vitamin B6 will help to prevent a recurrence of bladder Cancer.

Zinc helps to release Beta carotene from the liver.

Beer drank in excess can cause you to suffer from gout. This is a high uric acid level.

I hope that you find this information informative. Here's to your improved health and wellness
