Ways to Cut Fat, the Bad Fat!

Yes folks, I am going to say it again: eat more calories than you burn and guess what? You gain weight. Dah! But, what we sometimes fail to remember is that proteins, carbohydrates, and fats have different effects on your body’s metabolism. Two identical people eating the same calories, but in different nutrient proportions will gain or lose different amounts of body fat. Ah, ha! Someone who eats 150 calories of cheese will have a different reaction than someone who eats 150 calories of carrots. So lets talk about fats, and ways to cut fut, but only the bad fats.

My article title makes it sound like you should not eat any fat in your diet, right? No, that’s not the idea at all. Healthy fats are essential to your meal plan every day! The important thing to know is which fats are good and which ones are bad. So when I talk about ways to cut fat, I am talking about the bad fats, not the good ones your body needs to function normally each day.

So what is a bad fat? The grocery stores are loaded with them! They are hydrogenated fats called trans fats. You will see partially hydrogenated oils listed on a lot of processed foods, if you look at the labels. Hydrogenation is a process used to allow oils to have a longer shelf life. Unfortunately though, in the process they become something that is actually toxic to the body and stored away as a toxin. These oils are actually closer to plastic than thay are a normal fatty acid.

If that’s a bad fat, what is a good one? These are the fats that come from healthy food sources. They contain essential fatty acids that your body needs to keep your brain and nervous system functioning normally all the way down to the need for healthy essential fatty acids for the hundred trillion cells in your body.

These good fats come from things like organic extra virgin olive oil, organic butter, organic eggs, organic cold pressed coconut oil, flax seed oil, avocados, and raw walnuts. Only the coconut oil and butter should be used for cooking as they can withstand the temperatures, and they avoid becoming toxic when heated.

And what about the ways to cut fat, the bad fat? Avoid anything except those fats I mentioned above! Crisco, margarine, I can’t believe it’s not butter, etc, avoid! Next time you are in the grocery store read the labels. If you see partially hydrogenated oils in anything you are considering buying, I would recommend putting it back in the shelf!

A good healthy eating regimen will have twenty to thirty percent of that plan to include healthy fats like those I mentioned above. The trick is to incorporate those into each meal in such a way as to not have too many, but to also have enough. Low fat is not the way to go! Removing the bad fats is!

Thanks Franz. I come from a family of very obese (but wonderful) people. Everyone loves to cook, eat and socialize. When I began putting on weight during high school I committed to taking better care of myself because I could already see the toll obesity was taking on my siblings. To this day I continue to study and read everything I can, and implement a healthy diet in my own family. I am not overly obsessive, but I've learned it is the "little" modifications that make a "big" difference in great health.

Great article, Franz! I liked the comparison of someone eating 150 calories of cheese compared to someone eating a 150 calories of carrots. You included some very useful tips and the article was a great reminder that healthy fat from organic or natural sources are excellent ways to consume fat without the toxins. Good job!
