Weight Training Supplements for Building Muscle

As a lot of you already know, there are a lot of weight training supplements on the market. Let’s talk a little about protein supplements. There are a lot of forms of protein supplements. They range from protein bars, protein drinks, and protein powders.

Protein powders come in a powder form that you can mix with your favorite drink, whether it’s water, milk, or juice. Protein powders come in various flavors, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and so on. Bodybuilders will usually supplement their diets with protein and is usually taken directly before and after a workout. Protein supplements can also be used as a meal replacement. The theory of this is that bodybuilders require higher levels of protein in order to get the muscle growth they want.

There is not any real proof that training can benefit from protein supplements. Actually statistics say that a person can take in too much protein or have wasted protein, due to your body only being able to transition 5 to 6 grams of protein in one hour. Some of these protein powders have 20 to 50 grams of protein per drink or bar. With that being said, if you are training hard, your body is going to require more protein than usual. The extra protein that you take in will help in muscle recovery, especially if training hard.

Some of the best protein that a person can take in for muscle growth is from whole foods but due to the quantity of protein one needs to bulk up; they often have to use the supplements to help them get there. Most people think that they have to eat steak and eggs 5 or 6 times a day, in order to take in the amount of protein that they need, but that is not necessarily true. Although steak and eggs are high in protein, there are other foods as well.

A person can get a fair amount of protein, just from breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Throw in a couple of snacks in between meals and you are there. I know most people say they don’t have time but you just got to be disciplined. Maybe have a peanut butter sandwich, a couple handfuls of nuts, couple slices of cheese, cottage cheese, maybe even a glass of milk. There is approximately 8 grams of protein in just an 8 oz. glass of milk. Protein intake is important for bulking up or building muscle but can be expensive, when buying supplements all the time.

Well said and I agree it is very difficult and expensive to eat right and get enough nutrition.

There are a TON of supplements out there, and it is important to do your research. There are a lot of them that if you do not have some kind of biology or biochemistry degree are very difficult to decipher and figure out if they are a waste of time and money or not. Also, everyone has different body chemistry and will have different results including factors like age, weight, etc. Personally, I am a fan of supplements, it is very difficult and expensive to eat right and get enough nutrition for your body when you are a serious fitness athlete, and you can actually save money and eat better with the careful use of supplements. It is important to know what kind of proteins do what, when the optimal time to take amino acids, what kind of amino acids to take, etc. So it is essential for the serious body builder/athlete to empower themselves through knowledge in order to determine what is best for themselves.

Although we do get the best protein from whole foods, if wanting to bulk up, you may need to supplement a couple proteing drinks per day in order to get enough to get where you want to be. I feel that putting on weight or bulking up can be just as hard as losing weight or dieting.
