Omega-3 is becoming a big thing these days for people looking at ways they can improve their overall health. Everyone wants to be healthy it’s just some people don’t know the best way to go about it.
There are three 3 basic things you ought to do to for optimum health: Start a fitness plan, eat a healthy diet, and supplement on healthy nutrients. The last one, while optional, is important.
Diet and exercise are integral to good health. If your diet is poor then you will not be getting the right nutrients to obtain optimal health, and exercising is no good if you look healthy on the outside, but are not healthy within. But why do you need supplements?
You need supplements to ensure wholesome intake of nutrients. Our modern diets often fall short on this.
DHA Omega-3 is such an important nutrient because the body cannot make this nutrient by itself. To get it you have two options; eat a whole lot of fish each day or find the best product that contains it in one little capsule. I know which one I would prefer!
What is DHA Omega-3?
Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid mainly found within the oils from fish. It contains two properties that are required for good health, EPA and DHA. While they are both beneficial to your health, studies have shown that DHA is the most important.
DHA provides massive health to your brain and can improve memory as well as protect against age related illness such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.
This fatty acid can also provide many other benefits to one’s health including:
- Improved immune system
- Clearer skin
- Improved nervous system
- Protection against cancer
- Protection against cardiovascular illness
- Plus much more.
DHA Omega-3 is also very important to both a growing foetus and newborn babies. Pregnant women are often advised to supplement on this important nutrient.
Are There Any Possible Side Effects?
Studies have shown Omega-3 to be very safe and beneficial. If too much is consumed at once then you may suffer from slight problems such as diarrhea, bloating and gas, but these are uncommon.
As with any supplements, prescribed or not, always read the label and follow the instructions and dosage.
There is no recommended daily allowance for Omega-3, but if you do wish to take a higher dosage, consult with a medical practitioner prior to starting your supplements.
Problems With Poor Quality Products
There have been many times where consumers have purchased fish oil supplements and have been thoroughly disappointed. Sometimes companies market products that have not been decontaminated enough, or supplements which have a strong taste of fish; not very good for fish eaters leave alone the non-fish eaters amongst us.
Make sure that you always check the feedback of consumers if you are purchasing products over the internet. A certificate of purity is also beneficial.
Try and avoid supermarkets for your DHA omega-3 supplements as these will usually be weak in strength and not of the best quality.
