Whey Protein Vs Casein Protein

All I hear, from my friends is what type of whey protein there on, its gotten to the point where I don't think they eat regular food at all. Is Whey Protein so important that up and coming body builders need to fret about what type they should take. Well in mind constant conquest to help people better themselves(physically and emotionally), I decided to write an article on the different types of protein drinks that are available. I will also share the one I currently drink(no seriously, I am literally drinking my protein while I am writing this). Before I discuss the different choices of protein powder there are, its important to understand what protein is and why it is so treasured by bodybuilders.

So what is Protein?

Proteins simply are biochemical compounds that have more than one polypepitde that is responsible for the cause a biological action. If that seems a bit too complex, lets just stick with the simple answer. Protein is responsible for repairing and building(that' is why it is so necessary for body builders) different tissues, organs as well as skin,hair,bones and even nails. According to those smart guys, from that one university(scientists) protein helps keep you satisfied. If you have ever eating a meal consisting mainly of protein you will realize that this meal keeps you fuller longer, which allows you to eat less meals(for those of you looking to lose weight). Now that we know a little about protein lets talk about the different types of protein powder available to you.

Whey Protein

Is a mixture of proteins isolated from whey(whey- is the by product of cheese production). So what does the whey protein do? It helps fill in the gaps in your meals as well as provides your muscles with protein after a hard workout. Lets take a look at the two types of whey protein to see which protein is right for you.

Whey Protein Isolate.

Has the greatest percentage of Protein available(around 90-95%). It also is lowest in lactose, so it tends to be viewed as the "best whey protein" type available.

Whey Protein Concentrate.

Unlike its cousin(whey protein Isolate) the concentrate version has about as much protein in it as lactose, and could be seriously damaging to someone who is lactose intolerant, but if you do not suffer from this, it is a great supplement that will provide you with healthy fats as well as protein.

A great advantage of Whey protein is its similarity to sugar, it dissolves quite quickly for instant protein nourishment for your muscles.

Casein Protein

Similar to its twin brother(whey) it is comes from the byproduct of dairy. The benefits of casein are similar to those of whey(which I wont go over again). Casein, however digest a whole lot slower than whey, which does not allow for an insulin spike(storage of fat in fat cells). Casein, is a great bedtime supplement because it will not allow you to go catabolic while you sleep.
