Which Foods Increase Your Metabolism?

We all know that the higher your metabolism the more calories you burn while exercising, sitting or even sleeping. There are many ways to boost your metabolism like exercise etc... However you can eat to increase your metabolism. Is it not then a good idea to ask yourself which foods increase your metabolism?

Before I go into which foods, I want to begin by saying eating food can increase your metabolism by itself. A lot of people skip breakfast trying to reduce their calories, while this is your aim if you want to lose weight, it’s counterproductive. By not eating breakfast you actually reduce your metabolism. Not to mention that you will probably be so hungry at lunch time that you’ll more than make up for breakfast this would make skipping it pretty pointless.

The first one is not really a food but I wanted to include it because it’s very important. Water can make a huge difference to your metabolism simply because of how harmful dehydration is to your metabolism. To increase the effects of water on your metabolism drink cold water the energy the body uses to turn the water into your bodies temperature will burn some extra calories and raise your metabolism that bit more.

Green tea and coffee is another option. Green tea, according to research done at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, will not only increase your metabolism but will also encourage fat oxidation. What is fat oxidation? Basically fats are stored in very large molecules, now fat oxidation is the body’s way of breaking down these molecules so that it can use it as energy. If your nutrition goals are fat loss then this is great news for you. Coffee does the same but because of the caffeine.

Spicing things up boosts your metabolism as well. Plus it will make your meals much more interesting as well.

Lean proteins are also good for your metabolism. This is assuming that you are eating with a good exercise regime you will increase the amount of muscle in your body which in turn will increase your resting metabolic rate. This is the amount of calories you’ll burn while doing nothing! (In a nutshell). The best sources of protein are; lean meat, poultry, fish and eggs.

By adding the above to your diet you will boosts your metabolism. However I don’t want to create the illusion that this will do a world of wonders. It just will not. Think of it more as an aid. The differences they will make to your body all added up will give you a fair amount of help when trying to achieve your goals.
