The American Cancer Society, in its newly released e-book called “Cancer Facts & Figures 2012” has estimated that in 2012 about 173,200 cancer deaths in America will be caused by tobacco use. Based on Scientific evidence, about one-third of the 577,190 cancer deaths expected to occur in America in 2012 will be related to overweight or obesity, physical inactivity, and poor nutrition. But the good news is that all these causes can be prevented completely.
Healthy weight loss diet should be designed to help fight diseases like cancer. It should be a diet that doesn’t starve people but encourages them to eat the right foods that will help their body reduce the dangerous fats and achieve a healthy lifestyle.
The following is a list of some of the healthiest foods that should be present in our dining table.
Whole Grain
Whole grain components are rich in fiber (which is essential in weight loss), vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and healthy fats. The foods considered as whole grain are wild rice, popcorn, oatmeal, brown rice, barley, wheat berries and flours such as whole wheat. It should be a part of ones diet.
In order for the grain to be 100 percent “whole” it should contain cereal germ, endosperm, and bran, in contrast to refined grains, which retain only the endosperm and eliminates cereal germ and bran. Try to avoid these common refined grains: white rice, white flour, white bread, hominy, and pasta.
Oats
Oats are significant sources of dietary fiber, high balanced protein, and carbohydrates for energy. It contains a soluble fiber named beta-glucans, which is effective in lowering blood cholesterol and high blood pressure. Oats when eaten makes you feel full longer which helps with weight loss, because it controls your appetite so that you don’t overeat.
Coconut (meat, juice, milk, flour, and oil)
According to the Coconut Research Center, coconut (or cocos nucifera) is the tree of life. It is rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals, and has a wide range of health benefits. Coconut is even known to kill viruses that cause influenza, herpes, measles, hepatitis C, SARS, and AIDS. When used as part of food recipe, coconut gives a distinct flavor that makes food not only highly nutritious but also very delicious. Coconuts contain powerful lauric acid which is a nutrient for the immune system. The fats found in a coconut are readily used, so that it is less likely to be stored in the body, therefore essential with weight loss.
Carrots
Carrots (or Daucus carota) are among the list of vegetables that are easy to grow, tasty, high in nutrition, and can be easily added to our diet. It’s almost an all-season vegetable, which is grown throughout the year. It contains good source of vitamins B1, B2, B6, vitamin K, biotin, fiber, potassium, and thiamine. Carrots are known to combat aging, cancer, heart disease, and stroke. It also has beta-carotene, which helps improve vision and also nourishes skin.
Tomato
Tomato (or Solanum lycopersicum) is a fruit that has a good amount of the powerful anti-oxidant name Lycopene, which is known to fight cancers such as prostate, cervical, colon, rectal, and cancers of the stomach, mouth, pharynx, and esophagus. Low-calorie tomato-based soup when eaten before meals may reduce hunger and increase the feeling of fullness, which is essential in weight loss.
Other good sources that helps with weight loss are grass-fed beef, fish, nuts, Brussels sprouts, couscous, and lentils.
The ultimate purpose of diet should be to prepare the body for exercise. Without enough exercise, the body will gain fat easily even though you’ll see some good results through eating the right foods. By exercising, you'll be able to develop healthy muscles that will prevent the increase of dangerous excess fat. Having said this, an adult should get at least 2 hours of moderately-intense exercise per week in order to stay healthy.
I agree that it's so important to eat the right foods to stay healthy, but today's supermarkets offer such a tempting variety of foods that it's easy to grab foods that are actually going to undermine your health. Your article provides valuable guidelines for healthy eating. Great article!
