Kicking the Soda Habit, Once And For All

People who are trying to change their dietary habits may balk when it comes to learning that they have to let the soda go. And, don't think that just because it is "diet" soda that you are in the clear. Letting go of soda means all soda, from the sugar laden regular to the chemical laden diet stuff. Soda, in all forms is not good for you and has no redeeming qualities at all.

Both regular and diet sodas have chemicals in them. In fact, one of the chemicals that create the caramel color for cola type sodas has been linked to an increased risk of cancer. Regular soda is loaded with calories- up to 250 for a 20 ounce bottle, most of which comes directly from sugar. Diet soda, while calorie free has artificial sweeteners in addition to the other chemicals, including that same, cancer causing color chemical. But, diet soda also causes other problems that could lead to weight gain- including tricking the body into thinking it is getting something and then disappointing it when that something is not delivered. In response, hunger signals may be kicked off and people will end up eating far more calories than they intended.

Soda does not only cause issues like obesity thought. It is thought to increase the leaching of calcium from the bones which causes osteoporosis and tooth decay. It also increases the risk of diabetes and heart disease as well as some cancers. And soda is expensive- with the average consumer downing three cans or bottles per day at a cost of nearly two dollars per serving or more than two thousand dollars a year.

It is also important to note that while some people are fine with the occasional soda while they are out, others are dealing with a real addiction not only to the chemicals that they are used to getting from each drink but also behaviorally. Those dual function addictions can make breaking the soda habit even harder for most people but there are tips to help them accomplish it.

First, it is important to realize that it is an addiction. Next, there are ways to eliminate some of the negative aspects of breaking free from those addictions. Eating healthy, balanced meals is a good start and will help keep the focus from feelings of hunger/thirst. If you are thirsty, drink a class of water. If you miss the flavor, add fruit which gives you some taste without the chemicals or the sugar. In addition, stave off the caffeine withdrawal headaches and other pains by drinking coffee or green tea on a daily basis.

Thing that makes me really angry is they put the most addictive chemicals into this crap to make sure they have a returning consumer, regardless of what it does to you. Personal choices must be in force to make the right decisions on this stuff. great one Amie!
