I believe that one of the problems that lead to obesity, problems with soceity, is our environment, that appears to vastly, encourage people to become preoccupied with food and with eating.
For example I find that when I go shopping there are hundreds of food choices to make a selection from. If I go to a shopping mall or an entertainment centre, I can find a cinema, a bowling alley and alongside them about thirty different eating out places, from restaurants to cafes to fast food. I find that entertainment has suddenly, become more about eating food.
In cinemas there is fast food to take in with you while you are watching a movie. Popcorn, nachos, chocolates, and ice-cream it’s all there. When you are watching a movie you are encouraged to eat and you probably hardly register the amount of food that you have consumed. Spare a thought for the person sitting next to you who has to listen to the constant chewing and chomping of various cinema foods, not forgetting the slurping of drinks in tall plastic containers. I have to say that is extremely annoying to be sat next to a serial cinema foodie.
Cinemas should not be selling food at all in my opinion it is totally unnecessary to eat copious amounts of food and drink while watching a movie. Why can’t we sit for 2 hours without eating food? Although I’m sure that others are going to disagree strongly with me and say that cinema food is part of the overall cinema experience.
Then there are the all you a can eat buffet eating places and you do eat all you can! because you have been given permission to eat as much as you can. Get your monies worth here!
I mean how often, do I see a healthy eating restaurant, hardly ever. The money is in, selling us, poor quality processed food with fries and lots of them.
Worse still are I think are the all-inclusive package holidays where you are get to move about very infrequently or to sit by a pool, and then only need to ask the waiter to bring you another drink or to collect some more food from time to time.
Is it no wonder that people have a problem with weight when there is constant bombardment of our brains and visionary senses?
Look at the mixed messages about food that are given to young people that the government even allow to happen. The mixed messages of sponsorship that is allowed by chocolate manufacturers and fast food companies aimed towards the youth of today. Even the London Olympic games that were being sponsored by McDonalds, and giving out the wrong health food messages to young people.
It is clear that society and our environment do play a major part in the growing problem of obesity and therefore, should take some responsibility in helping to improve the nation’s health.
