Obesity: The Television Problem

America needs a wake up call. Not only is the huge pervasion of television in our lives harmful to our bodies, it also hurts our minds. It dulls mental sharpness and does not stimulate creative thinking. The problem of TV in America is an extremely important issue that must be addressed, and people of all ages and race need to understand the problem and take personal action.

The fix to this issue must begin with our children. This is where habits will most firmly develope, and they need to learn from an early age to be fit through physical activity and not to lead a life wasted in front of the TV screen. If young children begin to watch large amounds of television, the chance that they will be obese as kids and later as adults grows exponentially. At this point, responibility rests largely on the parents. Parents must take action and personal responsibility in guiding their children in leading active lives (both physically and mentally). Allowing one's child to spend several hours in front of the TV every day is absolutely unnacceptable, for in doing this they are directly responsible for harming their child's health both now and in the future.

Rewakaning Ourselves to Lives of Wellness

We must once again appreciate fitness. We must appreciate the mental and physical benefits of having healthy bodies and healthy lifestyles. Although the vast "green" movement has been growing, the problem of obesity seems to somehow persist with all the more force. Being a world-class athlete is a life-long endeavor, but just being fit and healthy is not a hard undertaking. We can achieve this through daily activities such as physical labor, sports, and play. One of the easiest ways to get fit is to (it need only be 2 or 3 times a week) go with friends or family and play a sport. Get a few guys together and play basketball, and without even knowing it, you'll start to become fit and healthy, while the whole time you are simply having fun.

And as adults, fitness is not always a readily available state. Adults have the responsibilities of work and family, only to name of couple of the large ones. Work and especially family can and should be wonderful things, but sometimes it's just not easy to get fit with all the time constraints that an adult must juggle. The thing is, the time is there, it just has to be found. Going on a 10 or 15 minute run 3 times a week is a wonderful way to get fit, and 15 minutes, 3 times per week, is not at all a lot of time. Make a plan, involve your friends, and get out there and strive for health!
