Firstly what is saffron extract?

When we are feeling down, we are more likely to snack and it is thought that low levels of serotonin may be responsible for this. By increasing the levels of serotonin, it is thought that the desire to over eat is diminished. Snacking between meals usually means snacking on foods which are unhealthy, high in calories, high in fat and high in sugar. By helping us to control our hunger pangs, we are more likely to make healthy food choices which in turn can help us to lose weight and of course by cutting out the unhealthy foods we are also cutting down on our food intake in any event.

The studies carried out appear to show a direct correlation between using saffron extract and curbing of appetite. Further studies are expected. One of the more publicised ones was carried out by Dr Oz on American TV. Two women with weight problems were given saffron extract over a three day period and remarkably reported that not only did they not feel hungry, they lost any desire to snack or pick at junk food. Both of them went on to lose weight over the three day period of three and five pounds respectively which isn’t bad bearing in mind the short time scale.
