Watch the Olympics on Nbc Outside the Usa

NBC has been pissing a lot of people off with their coverage of the Olympics, but for an American abroad, using a familiar site in a familiar language is still the best way to watch live streaming events. Another frustration that American Olympics fans abroad are finding out is that you can't stream from the NBC site while you're outside the USA. Being abroad means that local websites may be in a language you don't understand, and coverage of US Olympians may be limited. Time difference is a pain as well. Changing the IP address of your computer can get you access to the NBC site, no matter what country you're in.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but the basic concept is that the IP address of your computer is the first hurdle you've got to cross. When NBC detects you're outside the USA you get a pop up message saying that they don't stream to your location.

Virtual private networks are well known for their IP changing features. All you need is to sign up for a VPN service with VPN servers in The USA, and you can get a US IP address on your phone or computer. That part is easy. There's no hardware needed, and you can get everything running in a few minutes.

Once you've got a US IP address, you've then got to actually sign into the NBC site. That's the difficult part. I'm not a member of any of the PayTV sites, but there's a long list including Dish, Cox, Verizon, Direct TV, and Comcast. You've got to be a paying member of one of these networks to actually get access to the live streaming features. NBC is really trying to restrict their streaming access to USA only! Once you've signed in with your login credentials, you can start streaming as if you were in The USA.

With the VPN, you're 'virtually' located in The USA. This isn't a very convenient trick for non-US citizens or for someone who's been living outside the USA for a long time and is not a paying member of one of the TV networks, but for someone who happens to be abroad for the Olympics, it's s convenient way to get American streaming tv overseas.

Another solution would be to go straight to the source, and get access to UK streaming overseas. The UK has a popular streaming player called BBC iPlayer. Because BBC is covering the events, and their coverage is bound to be more extensive and accurate than NBC, you can access iPlayer outside The UK and stream directly from The UK! The key here is that you need a UK IP address for your computer, so it looks like you're streaming video from inside The UK.
