I have always had remote control cars since I was a kid, but have neglected playing with my RC car for a few years, until a while ago, and now I’m hooked again! I got so hooked that I ended up buying a new one just because I wanted to race them in more places. I went through the buying process recently and wanted to share my experience, and help you guys make the right choices, as I feel I did. The first thing you will notice is that there is a LOT of choice, I mean loads. You have the option of Trucks, Truggy's, Buggy's and Short Course. There is Gas, Nitro or Electric as-well as 1:16, 1:10, 1:8, 1:5 scale rc cars. That is 48 choices before you have even got to brands! But this article is going to concentrate on the two main choices for any beginner buyer, Nitro or Electric RC car.
Electric Cars run from a single battery placed on the car and run of DC electricity whilst Nitro Cars run on Nitrogen propelled fuel. The general trend tends to be that kids enjoy the Electric Cars more because they are easy to use and pretty straightforward. There is no smoke and less noise in these models enhancing the user friendliness. Beginners are keen too as it is a great way to be introduced to the bobby, as you can upgrade later.
In terms of maintenance the Electric Car is extremely easy to use, once the battery is flat just replace with full one and charge the flat one. Rotating the batteries is best for the life of the batteries, effectively giving them a break between use. Nitro Cars have an excellent run time, as the Nitro-Methane tank is just like a petrol tank. Once empty, just top up, this can be done very easily. This ensures that your nitro remote control cars can maintain top speeds and run to its maximum potential – handy if not essential if you ever get into racing them.
The Nitro-Methane car choice is a great way to get the most out of your car, the speed and performance is far superior. Ultimately you may want to upgrade from this to a Gas car (tend to be 1:5 scale rc cars only), but for the mean time the Nitro will give you everything you need if you are keen on this hobby. Electric cars are more suited to children and brand new beginners, as Nitro cars are not favoured indoors as they emit smoke and not child friendly. The conclusion is clear in my eyes, if you want remote control cars for adults.
