Many of us have experienced neck pain at some time or another. It may have been trauma from a fall maybe a car accident or pore posture. Nowadays many of us are at our computers all day with our heads lurched forward. This hunched position causes the muscles in the back of your neck to get tight and short. Yoga can help loosen your neck muscles by stretching them ,which will help you get rid of tension and relieve your neck pain. The average head weighs 11 pounds and your neck needs to support it.
Most neck pain starts in the top part of the neck called the cervical spine, which supports the head with C-shaped bones.The mobility of the neck comes from bones called your vertebrae. The cervical bones are smaller than the spinal vertebrae. Muscles also help to provide spinal balance and stability and enable movement. This is not the complete anatomy of the neck, but it gives you the basic idea of how it works. Neck muscles are often tight and tense which cause neck pain, and that's why they are more vulnerable to becoming overstressed by some small movement. Muscle spasms are caused by stress, sitting for long periods of time, injury,overuse,and poor posture. Systems could be intense pain,neck stiffness or burning or pins and needles prickly feeling.
Muscle strain which causes neck pain is caused by a tear in the small muscle fibers that slide over one another when you move your neck.Muscle strain can be caused by overuse, sudden and strong impact, too much muscle tension (lifting heavy weights). Some symptoms could be neck stiffness, headache and dizziness.
A stinger can happen when the neck is forced to rotate or tilt excessively causing neck pain. You know when you have a stinger because you will feel burning or stinging in the area of the neck. This usually happens in contact sports, but it can also happen from turning your head to quickly. Symptoms include intense pain, tingling or burning sensation and numbness or weakness in the arm or hand.
The neck is a small complicated area of the body . The following poses will help alleviate tight neck muscles These poses can be incorporated into your yoga routine or if done alone they can be done in 10 minutes and are worth it to relieve your neck pain. If you have any neck injuries you should talk to you doctor before you do any workouts. Poses for neck pain: Bridge pose,Plow pose,Shoulder stand pose, Knees to Ears pose, Fish pose.Move at your own pace.
