There are different diets available for treating and or avoiding Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder. We are all aware that food is essential on our body. One of the issues presented is the sugar intake. Studies present that sucrose or sugar does not affect children’s behavior pattern nor gives rise to any behavior illness. Studies and research also show that parent’s expectations on their children can affect their inattention and hyperactivity symptoms. There are also studies presenting a comparison on children given with foods containing less sugar and those given with foods that have a high level of sugar content. The latter showed an inattention and hyperactivity on children.

On the other hand, there is a need for an overall nutrition on Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity patients. Over all nutrition involves the daily food intake. Questions have been raised on how can nutrition help or worsen ADHD. It is believed that the food content one digests may give rise or eliminate ADHD symptoms. This diet promotes variety of tips and techniques that the patients must consider and eat. A high protein diet which includes high protein foods must be taken. Foods of this group are beans, cheese, fish, eggs, nuts and meat. High protein food must be best served in breakfast and snacks for it makes the medication of the patient take effect in a faster time. Another regimen is to eat less simple carbohydrates like corn, syrup, honey and products made from flour, peeled potatoes and the like. When eating less simple carbohydrates help, eating more complex carbohydrates will make the patient’s condition better as well. Foods with complex carbohydrates include green and leafy vegetables and citrus fruits like orange, apple, pears, grapes and the like. Having this diet may help one to have a good sleep at night. Lastly is to eat foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids. This can be found on foods like tuna, salmon, Brazil nuts, olive and canola oil and other foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are also available in a supplement form.

There are also supplementation diets for Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder. These supplements include vitamins, minerals and other nutrients needed by the body to minimize and avoid the symptoms of the disorder. On the contrary, there is also an elimination diet for Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder. This diet presents the removal of various foods or condiments that may give rise or worsen the disorder’s symptoms.
