Patients diagnose with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder usually do compulsive habits because they have the feeling that there is a must in doing such. Others have compulsions in order to shift their anxieties or any other worries. Individuals experiencing these compulsions thinks that there habits or actions may avoid the occurrence of an unlikely event. On the other hand, compulsions may also bring the recurrence of an unlikely event that might happen in the future. In some instances, the patients’ rationalization on his condition becomes idiosyncratic or distorted that it causes them to have stress which may worsen their condition. Habits or actions like dermatillomania or the excessive picking of the skin, trichotillomanai or too much plucking of hair and onychophagia or too much biting of the nails may happen. OCD patients know that their thoughts, actions and behaviors are of no reason but they think that there is a must in doing so in order to avoid the thought and occurrence of accidents or any untoward situations.

There are common and usual symptoms and indicators of OCD compulsions like the counting and recounting of footsteps or actions done in a repetitive way by any patterns or intervals. Some may wash their hands over and over again or clear their throat for so many times. Others may check the lights, doors or any appliances for a too much number of times which may relate to their attitude when it comes to organization that is beyond the normal.

Some individuals take compulsions as their get away from obsessive thoughts. Yet they must be reminded that the relief compulsions can give them is only or a short period of time and after it subsides the condition is not assured to be cured and may worsen the condition. There are also cases when some individuals do and execute things repeatedly but these actions are not considered. Habits under this case include bedtime routines, learning in school or studying and other religious practices. Habits or actions may not be immediately considered as compulsions if done repetitively. They must first qualify to some basis like on how they affect the individual’s daily normal living and on how they react with these habits.

Anxiety and fear are usually tied up with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Because of the compulsions, individuals may not be able to do tasks assigned to them especially with those who are in school and at work.
