There are various alternative medicines presented to treat and cure the symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or commonly known to be as ADHD. Alternative treatments for the disorder include herbs and supplements that may alleviate the burden suffered by the patient diagnosed with the disorder because of the inattention and hyperactivity. Though alternative treatments have been presented, still there are few results authorizing its positive effect on the patient’s condition.

There are only few cases that resulted into a successful treatment using herbal medicines and other supplements. The cure of the patient’s condition and symptoms depend on how his system responds on the alternative medicines taken. Herbal medicines and other supplements have also risk and side effects that the patient may not cope and hence, may worsen his condition. When preferring alternative medicines be sure to consult a doctor or any specialist concerned with the disorder so as to avoid any misuse of the medicine.

There are some research and studies which show that there are a few natural products or supplements which have been found to be helpful and effective to the patient’s inattention and hyperactivity symptoms. Though, studies do not present the long term effect of the said medicines.

SAMe or S-adenosyl-L-methionine is one of the alternative medicines opted to be used to treat and cure the depression and osteoarthritis that ADHD can give to the patient. Research also shows that the intake of this medicine can is make the attention, impulsivity and restlessness of the patient better. SAMe has found to be more effective in adult ADHD than in children ADHD.

Children diagnosed with the disorder usually have a lower amount of needed fatty acids. Fatty acids have been said to improve the behavior and thought processes of children having ADHD and any other related disorders. Fatty acids can be found on foods like salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel, trout and on any other fish oil. Children with ADHD sometimes have a lower amount of essential fatty acids.

At times, children having the disorder have low level of serum zinc than those who are not diagnosed with the disorder. Zinc supplements when taken alone or being added to any other medicines taken can alleviate the symptoms experienced by the patient. Low level of serum zinc can also lead to serum zinc deficiency which may worsen the condition of the patient. Above all else, make sure that you consult your doctor or physician about the medications for you to know the do’s and don’ts about it.
