It is very important to know what an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is in order to assess an individual suffering from OCD. Obsessive-compulsive disorder, also known as OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, doubt or worry, by repetitive behaviors to reduce the related anxiety aimed at reducing the associated anxiety, or by a combination of such obsessions and compulsions. . Obsessions are thoughts that recur and persist despite efforts to ignore or confront them. On the other hand, compulsions are psychological conditions in which a person does a behavior compulsively, having an overwhelming feeling that they must do so.

Assessment of OCD can be done by observing characteristics that are associated with the disorder’s signs and symptoms which go beyond the normal one. There are many things to be considered in OCD such as its nature, effects and everything that relates to it, therefore one should be knowledgeable and aware of this disorder. Medical books and internet can help one with regard to OCD because vast information can be found in this media. With right knowledge concerning this disorder, one can probably detect if someone has an OCD and can aid them with their disease immediately.

A person having OCD exhibits consistent manifestations of symptoms such as constant and repetitive fears, worries and behaviors that are not normal. They typically have the feeling that things have to be done vividly in a detailed manner and in definite number of times and span of time. These things can result to disturbance and interruption of one’s normal course of life.

OCD is more than our usual anxieties, fears, doubts or improper behaviors. This kind of disorder must not be taken for granted. If one is suspected of OCD or is suffering from it, a doctor, psychiatrist or any licensed professional in the field must be consulted.

Self-report and parent-report questionnaires are also made available for OCD patients. They can be reliably found on books and internet or supplemented by doctors. Questionnaires provided include the potential symptoms of OCD that must be addressed accurately as much as possible. The output of the test can be considered to identify if one has an OCD, but this measure may not be a hundred percent. Results of this can also be addressed to a doctor for further explanation. Clinician-administered measures are reliable and efficient.

It is impossible to detect OCD through results of blood test because it is a medical condition. Diagnosis should be based through the patient’s details and narration of his behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. Patients, updates and observations of his own condition are very important factors that cal directly associated with their treatment.

Proper attitude and disposition in life of the patient with the help of his attending physician can help manage and cure the disorder.
