There are different treatments like medications and therapies given to patients diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. In terms of medications, stimulants have been the most common treatment taken by most patients. On the other hand, with regard to therapies, behavioral therapies have best cure the inattentive and hyperactive symptom of patients.
Most parents with children having ADHD prefer the behavioral therapy as treatment of their children. There are various ways to treat and deal with the behaviors of the patients. First, if parents want the behavior of their children and want it to be continued for improvement, praises must be given to the child. Second, if the behavior of the child is unlikely, never tolerate it just because of their disorder. Instead, reprimand them and if they do not listen punish them. It is also important that after punishing them, parents’ must try their best to explain to their children the reason why they were reprimanded or punished. And lastly, I after being reprimanded or punished and still the child continue to exhibit their unlikely behavior, ignore it. Ignoring them and their behaviors may help because this is one of the signs of their inattention and hyperactivity.
When disciplining a child diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, it is very important that the rules, policies and instructions given to them must be very clear and concise. There are times when children do not follow the set rules and instructions because they do not clearly understand what is asked and expected of them to do. Giving clear commands and instructions is the very first and basic step for the children to obey you. When it comes to adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, they are most likely to follow commands and instructions said in a soft and very detailed manner.
Commands and instructions will be most effective when established with proper eye contact. Parents of children with the disorder must focus their attention on the patient when giving commands and instructions. Tapping the shoulder of the child and holding his hand may also help. Giving out instructions clearly and accurately is also among the factor which help the child cope with his Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. When giving commands or instructions be sure to say it in a soft and melodious tone. Do not give commands and instructions in a harsh manner because there is a great probability that children will not follow it.
