Research and study show and correlates exercise to treatments and therapies of patients with disorders. With regard to this, exercise has been found to reduce and give relief to symptoms experienced by patients including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder patients. Exercises such as running, jogging and walking have given relief to the obsessive and compulsive symptoms of OCD patients. Like any other treatments and therapies, exercise, when done properly and with discipline, patients can feel relief and ease on their symptoms ion about 2 to 3 weeks.
Scientists and specialists came into conclusion that exercise can reduce the obsessions and compulsions of OCD patients as well as the times that they occur. OCD treatments and therapies can be accompanied with exercise to have best results depending on how the patient copes with his condition and when done with a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Exercise has been found to reduce the stress, depression and anxiety patients suffer from when diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Though exercise is effective on all kinds of disorders which include OCD, there have been no further studies showing that exercise is applicable and appropriate to all types of OCD patients. Exercise does not only focus on physical activities. There are other exercise activities and programs one may undergo depending on his body and condition.
There are many ways on how exercise can influence and affect every patient’s condition. Exercise changes the brain and its functions. Running may enhance and develop new connections on the brain and the neurons. Exercise can result to development of growth factors. These new connections and neurons can be helpful in reducing OCD symptoms. Also, exercise produces endorphins. These are neurochemicals that make the patients feel better. Exercise also boost and improve patients’ self esteem. Exercise helps in relieving patients’ stress and thus makes them more confident of themselves. Because their stress is relieved through exercise, they can now feel well and live a normal life by coping with their disorder.
Exercise is not just all about physical activity. On the other hand, it is also a social activity. When one does exercise, he is involved with his jogging buds or is socially engaged with his gym mates. Through exercise, one may also join a sports team where he can gain new friends and have new outlets of his symptoms. By this, negative effects of stress are redirected away from the patient.
