As parents, eating healthy and plenty of exercise is just the beginning for our children. Due to the world’s acknowledgement of going green, we as parents have helped the world’s economy by demanding a HEALTHIER alternative for our children on the market. Not only are we all more aware of what we put in and on our bodies, but also into our children’s bodies.
We have all been brought up with certain brand labels that we believed were to be good for our children, but after having children of my own, I have found that a commonly used baby shampoo, was laced with heavy chemicals & alcohol that damages the skin and you can only imagine what would be absorbed into the body! In fact, a study conducted by the Organic Consumers Association had found a chemical in many personal skin care products that can cause Cancer, would you want to pour that over your baby’s head?
What many parents do not know, is that a lot of baby clothing is not good for baby as well, as dyes and man made fibres can cause irritation, THAT coupled with the wrong moisturizer can even help lead to skin irritation such as eczema, remembering a baby’s skin is a lot thinner than our own, so it is more prone to damage. Going organic is the only way to go these days for our children.
Organic baby products have grown with demand. Companies are now following suit, by ensuring organic baby products are readily available and made from natural fibres such as wool, cotton and even bamboo to name a few. With products made from these natural fibres there are no nasty chemicals, pesticides nasty dyes and toxins, so we know it will be good for baby.
Although organic baby products is the best - it can be more expensive. Here are some cost alternatives to organic baby products.
Grow Your Own Vegetable Garden
This is growing in trend due to the recession. Personally I have been a huge fan of growing my own vegetables as I know they are organic, and it is more cheaper than brought organic produce. Also, there are many organic sprays using typical household items such as onions and garlic that you can use to help eradicate pests and weeds. You also get great pleasure to see the fruits of your labour served for dinner for your baby and family.
Make Your Own Baby Skin Care Products
Using herbs, spices and plants you can make your very own organic baby products. Essential oils are great for moisturising the skin. Aloe Vera has many benefits from healing cuts to helping skin irritation; this is a must have plant in your garden!
Wipes & Nappies
You can make your own baby wipes by purchasing organic cotton fabric from the material store and there are many online. Hem the sized material to the size you want and away you go. Because they are washable, reusable wipes will save you money over time, think how many times in one day you wipe your baby’s face or bottom!
Use Cloth Nappies
Not only will this save you a huge amount of money, but are great for baby allowing baby’s skin to breathe and not overheat as disposables do, they are less irritating on baby’s skin as well and when you are finished with them, they make excellent cleaning rags.
