Health specialists provide recommendations and tips on how can parents help their children considering their inattentive and hyperactive symptoms.

Parents should know what Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder really is. They must have important background of the disorder especially its symptoms and treatments. By this, they can best help and manage their children’s inattentive and hyperactive symptoms.

If the child has been observed or identified with the symptoms of ADHD in his early childhood or whether he is under any medication or therapy, it is important that parents must inform the teacher of their children. Through this, teachers can also help the child in his condition and understand his behavior as well.

If not diagnosed with ADHD before entering school but has suspicions that the child is suffering from ADHD or any other behavioral disorder, it is very important to visit and consult a health specialist to have an immediate treatment for the symptoms and by this they will not even get worse. On the other hand, if the teacher is suspecting the child to have ADHD it is their responsibility and of the school to have the child checked by the school's physician and or guidance counselor. This must be done to avoid any conflicts between the child diagnosed or suspected to have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and his classmates.

Also, if parents observe that their children do not learn as what they should be, they have the right and prerogative to talk with the teacher and the school administration with regard to the matter. They can also write the administration to say their concerns if the latter is impossible. Parents must see to it that the letter is properly addressed and has all the information needed for them to relay the message that they desire to express.

When the patient's current school recommends him to have special education services like Individualized Educational Program or IEP, both teachers and parents must carefully identify and assess the child’s weaknesses and strengths at home and in school so that IEP will be most effective.

Whenever the child has done something good, parents must praise and give them appreciation. Parents should support their child’s talents and abilities. At the same time, they should encourage him or her to do more and do his or her best in everything the child does.

In imposing rules at home, parents should be clear, consistent and considerate. They should consider their child’s disorder. Also, parents should be clear in explaining the consequences of what may happen if the child does not follow the rules.
