Growing up I was the oldest of five children. Every year on our birthdays, my father would take us to a special room where he had our wall growth chart set up. Since we didn't have a lot of extra money growing up, all our wall growth chart was was basically a mark on the wall with the date and our initials.
Now I don't know what things were like in your house growing up, but it was kind of crazy at ours. There were seven people in a small house with a ton of toys and furniture, so we were always getting in each other's way. Well, my dad had put these markings on the wall with a pencil and with all the hustle and bustle in our house, all of the readings had gotten pretty smeared. So there were markings for five kids for about 10 years total that were barely legible.
Then we decided that we needed a bigger house. We had quite a bit to pack up before moving to our new house. So nobody thought to write down the measurements from our wall growth chart that my dad had taken all of those years. It wasn't until the first person had their birthday in the new house that we realized we had left all of those measurements behind. What a shame!
I know that this may not be of huge importance to some people, but I know that now that I have kids of my own, they really enjoy seeing how they have progressed from year to year. If I still had my own measurements, I could have compared them to my own kids progress to see how we compared to each other and maybe get an idea of where they might end up with their height. It was just a shame that no one thought about it.
Anyway, I browse around on the internet a lot in my spare time. One day I was looking at decorating ideas and I came across these vinyl wall growth charts. They come in all kinds of fun designs and colors and they really add to the decor in a kids room. I really wish that I had known about these when my kids were young.
These wall growth charts would have been great for us when we were growing up too. My dad could have had all of our measurements on one of these (or gotten each of us our own) and since these charts are easily removed from the wall and can be reapplied, we could have taken it with us. If you have little ones, you might want to check into these. They can be a neat thing for a kid to have.
