Welfare Compensation

I am a young man of twenty –three years old and a father to a bouncing boy.

I am a welfare father, a burden to the community I am staying in. I live off from the tax of the community.

I first went to the welfare office at November 2009, when I was a teenager boy. This is after I was rejected by my father, because I got a girl pregnant who lived at our neighborhood. He was mad at me,but it was too late to correct my mistake.

My accommodation was catered by the welfare officer who was established by “RED ROSE NGO” in my community. It was an awful experience for me.

I’ve search for jobs with no avails this got me discouraged and weak in looking for job. Bills were compiling with debtor on my neck to collect their money.

Being on welfare has taught me many things to learn about, how to live judiciously on my low income. It always warrants me to make budget on how I spend my income so as to spell out the unnecessary bills not needed for that moment. It was a bitter experience for me to remember; several times I have been humiliated by the welfare officers on the ground that I am weak to work. But I consoled myself that there is hope for tomorrow. I diligently work hard to take care of myself and my new family, which is hectic for me.

The biggest lesson I have learn from the welfare program, it is not good to be dependent on the government or any institution for your well-being,because you are not the only one on their payroll that need attention. So I was ready to work whenever I get a job.

But I’m more than just a collector of their goodies; I graduate from university of Xerox. I studied computer-sciences and I have some musical skills since when I was six years old. I have good programming skills, which I know can fetch me money but I got no support (capital).

I received what I call peanuts from the NGO, which can barely take care of me or family. They give me monthly payment of $123 for a month for financial assistance. I don’t spend money on reckless or non important things.

I take care of my son, by spending more on his needs, like clothes, shoes, and school fees.

I spend more time with the mother of my child, making sure she gets the best of me in sex and attention.

The thought of leaving them always occur to me, but because I made a promise to myself that wouldn't happen no matter anything that happens.

My parents told me to put the child for adoption, which I am against and will never be part to it.

My son has taught me a lot,he has taught me how to be a good father, and loving husband to my wife.

I’m grateful to the welfare team for their support for the past months with them, I want to say thank you to them greatly.
