When you are getting married you really want everyone to know that this is your special day so the best thing to do is to decorate your car with car bows and ribbon and then as your car is driven down the road everyone will immediately realise that this is your wedding day.
There are several ways that you can do this. Most brides put a bow on the front of their car with a "V" shaped ribbon across the bonnet from the wing mirrors, or door frame, to the front of the car where you can tie your front bow, usually to the grill. The wing mirrors are then an ideal fixing point for 2 additional bows. A bow can also be attached to the boot (trunk) of the car too so that the car is also decorated from behind.
Instead of attaching 2 bows to the wing mirrors you could, instead, attach 4 bows, one to each of the door handles, this looks especially pretty on a longer car and if you are hiring a stretched limo you may possibly have a couple more doors that you will need to decorate.
The bows can be larger handmade bows as shown in the picture or you can get pullbows which you buy flat and then just pull them up into bows when required. These are especially ideal if you are not getting married from home and need to transport everything for your wedding as they take up very little room. However the standard pull bows are only about 4" in diameter when made up, you can sometimes get them larger but a handmade bows can be made to your requirements and on average they tend to be anything from 6" to 12" across. The bow in the picture at the front of the car is 10" and the ones on the wing mirrors are 8" bows. The other advantage of having handmade bows is that you can have them made in several colours so although it is possible to buy 2 colour pull bows you are restricted with colour combinations but with handmade bows you can have them made in just about any colour combination you want to fit in with the theme of your wedding.
If you want to personalise your wedding car decorations further you can have the ribbon printed with the names of the bride and groom, you could also add the date of your wedding and usually you can also add a decorative motif such as hearts, doves or flowers.
In some countries they use tulle instead of the ribbon but instead of making the "V" shape they tend to run the tulle across the top of the car from the the front to the back. They usually start with a bow on the grill and then have another bow attached to the roof of the car, on the passenger side, just above the windscreen (wind shield) and then they link the 2 bows with tulle. The tulle then runs across the roof to another bow on the roof at the back of the car and then down the back window to join up with another bow on the boot (trunk). Tulle is very fine and you can easily see through a single layer of it but when you have several layers together it does become more solid so as the tulle would be running up and over the windscreen (wind shield) you may need to check to ensure that this doesn't break any local laws because in some countries it could be considered to be obstructing the driver's view.
Car bows may only be made from ribbon but they really do make an incredible difference to look of your wedding car and the bows are very versatile so you after your wedding you could always use the car bows to decorate your venue.
We got married by a fish pond in a nice hotel complex, so it was a stroll through the gardens of the hotel to get there from our room, unfortunately no car or limo required :) Will pass this onto a cousin who is getting married next year.
This is a much better idea than the way I've seen some cars decorated. When I got married some friends put crickets in our car.
I know, lipstick on the windows, fish tied to the exhaust.... weren't we all lovely to our friends!
Great tips! I have a friend who's getting married soon! Sharing this with her!
thanks for the tips! I'll look into this if I'm at the stage of planning my wedding with my girlfriend already. ;p
thanks a lot for the this, because I'm gettingh married next year.
