It is amazing how many bad decisions have been made over the last few years when it comes to personal freedoms. Now, in Wisconsin, the powers that be are making God mad one decision at a time.
Milwaukees Roman Catholic Archbishop Jerome Listecki has cried out against the decision by Governor Scott Walker to move the rent to own stores out from under the regulation of the Wisconsin Consumer Protection Act.
Why?
Governor Walker states that he agrees with the company spokesman Xavier Dominicis that these contracts are not loans and should not be governed as such.
People can walk away from them anytime they feel like it and are under no obligation to fulfill the full terms of the contracts. This is probably a good thing, as most times fulfilling the contract has the end result of having paid up to 7 times the retail amount for the product under contract.
Why the outcry?
Many groups are speaking against this decision, and all agree it is better having some regulations through this act than having no regulations at all, which is what this decision will create.
Wisconsin needs laws to govern both rent to own and payday loan companies, and without this regulation they can paint a bleak picture for Wisconsin residents.
Wisconsin currently shares no separate laws that would monitor these businesses along with North Carolina and New Jersey, and something needs to change, according to the consumer advocacy group WISPIRG
"These companies prey on the poor, and take advantage of people who are in desperate situations in their life. These people have no credit for a reason, many of them can not handle it. To give credit to them with incredibly high interest rates is just plain crazy" said the chairman of the group.
What about God?
Well, this was just a statement I used to get you to read the article, and hopefully make you upset enough to maybe speak up and speak out to your legislators and let them know we as a people have put up with this long enough.
But think about it, if God truly does exist, and if he did give his people free will, do you think he might be a bit upset that we have either made or allowed these choices to be made?
Either way we should all be saying we have had it, now change it.
Anyone fighting back?
More and more people and groups actually are speaking out, and many companies are offering solutions to the payday loan traps, like payday loan consolidation companies. At least they are on the borrowers side and are there to fight for the people who are trapped.
As far as the rent to own companies, you can still walk away from them yet at any time, and I suggest you do so immediately Now what kind of a statement would that deliver to these companies and our politicians?
God might just smile!

I'm a fan of this article. The photo you chose is awesome as well and it's one of the reasons I actually decided to read this article (not to mention the awesome title) this was definitely a great read and I love how you formatted it to be easily read.
Great piece Shawn. One of the things that makes you wonder why God doesn't intervene particularly when so called "wise" men seemingly lose their way along with their senses. Why can't we just naturally do those things that redound to the benefit of all - rich and poor regardless and not just a chosen few - why?
Yea - but evil always appear to have the upper hand. Anyway the fight goes on until ............
Great article Shawn. Just wish my granddaughter would read this.
Great title Shawn got my attention anyway. Free will yes but its the devil, his hordes and mans greed that is driving us into the oblivion.
Personally from your articles, I see you as an advocate for a good cause. Keep it up, we are right behind you
Great article Shawn, we are facing a similar problem in the Bahamas, where we have gambling for the tourist, but not for the citizen. While it should be freedom of choice for every one, it is the belief by powers that be, that gambling effects the poorest among us, so allowing a poor person to gamble will only make him poorer. The government held a referandum on the issue, people that lived in the poorest areas supported it 75%, in the more affluent areas, support was the opposite way around. In one of our Family Island , there was one vote for gambling, and the others was against.
