I have been on a rant lately and I do not see an end in sight anytime soon. I am hoping people will jump on the bandwagon with me and scream out " payday loans, prisons and politicians must go!"
What in the world is going on?
Todays news really has gotten under my skin and I just needed to sit down and put it into words. Am I the only one who thinks this stuff is nuts?
First, I hear the report on the hunger strike at Guantanamo Bay Prison. Now, I live in a county in my opinion that should not be holding people for any length of time without due process of the law. Many of these people are not even charged with anything and have no court dates and are basically forgotten.
Then listening to the president make excuses as to why it is happening just makes me see red. Is this not the prison Mr. Obama promised to close if elected? More hot air I guess.......
Anything else?
Oh I am just getting started here. Then I hear the news about Mr. Obama hinting we may be going into Syria. I guess now that over half of the women and children have been raped and killed it would be a bit easier to get around over there.
Then..... I read about this bill that Assemblyman Carl Heastie, a Democrat from New York, along with co sponsors Bronx state Sen. Jeff Klein and Manhattan Assemblyman Denny Farrell, are trying to get passed that renames payday loans as short term loans. They are calling this bill the "Loan Shark Protection Act. "
This bill would make it possible to bypass current usury laws with interest caps of 25% and have check advance companies start granting these loans, to the tune of 200% interest.
Their reasoning? Since people are already taking out illegal online payday loans New York might as well benefit from having these loans in house.
The real reason!
They are forgetting to mention the $90.000 these check cashing companies are donating to these sponsors coffers. These are the people we voted into office to protect and serve our best interests, not sell them!
The payday loan consolidation companies are busy enough without more bad choices by the general public when it comes to debt!
Thank you Governor Cuomo!
Thank goodness someone has their head screwed on right. Governor Cuomo, along with State Financial Services Chief Ben Lawsky, have cried out to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, stating that this bill would undermine everything that is now in place to protect the consumer.
Thanks to their efforts this bill has now been stuck dead.
Summary
We the people, need to start taking names and putting these bums out on the streets where they belong. We can no longer tolerate the corruption and lies we are being told and we must stand up for what is right in this country, and take back our freedoms.
What are you going to do today to make your country better?

Give 'em hell, Shawn! There are a lot of factors involved in those political situations (Syria, Guantanamo Bay), far too many to initiate a comprehensive discussion here. But, there's no doubt your New York payday loan beef is on target, as is your 'call to action' regarding our lost freedoms and the need to stand up for our rights. Cleaning our political houses sounds like a wonderful idea to me!
