How to Dress Like A Belly Dancer

Belly dancers always seem to be wearing the most beautiful and elegant outfits. When they dance, they flow with the music and all attention is on them. If you are a student or a performer and you would like to know what to wear when you dance then keep reading. If you are searching for how to dress like a belly dancer then you are in the right place. In this article we will discuss the do's and dont's for belly dancer costumes and how to find the perfect outfit for yourself.

Do: Respect the culture. If you are dancing for an audience that is mostly Egyptian then you will want to cover your midriff or wear a nude top to cover your midsection. You can always ask whoever hires you what the customs are and be prepared to change your outfit accordingly.

Do: Work with the music. If your music is fast and more of a drumming style then maybe you will be doing lots of shimmy's so a short hip coin belt would work really well. If you are dancing to a slower song then use a veil to outline your slow and elegant movements. If the song calls for zils then go ahead and use those too.

Don't be safe. When I say safe I mean don't be plain or simple. Your outfit should represent your personality and your style. Just getting a matching bra and belly dancing skirt doesn't make you memorable. Wear chunky jewelry or a unique headpiece. You can even get some fake tattoos. Be sure to embellish your best assets so your audience will remember your performance.

Many dancers wear what they think is beautiful. If you like blue and silver (like me) then get a blue and silver coin bra, a silver hip scarf and a blue full circle skirt. If you like to be more revealing then you can do that too but be respectful. Don't be too revealing or sexy if you are performing at a retirement home. Know your boundaries and your audience.

If your local store doesn't have what you are looking for then be sure to shop online. The prices are great and the shipping is free sometimes. There are not a lot of rules to how to dress like a belly dancer. If you look up tribal outfits then you will see that the options for belly dancing apparel are endless. There you have it, respect the culture, work with the music and don't be safe be memorable.

Good luck & Have fun!
