The 2012 NFL regular season is just weeks away and many Connecticut school teachers are looking forward to watching the New England Patriots have a great year. The Patriots have a few of the league’s best players and the NFL’s best coach. Many fans are predicting another AFC Championship this year. I know I'll have a smile on my face every time Gronkowski scores a touchdown. It’s not hard to like the Patriots and I myself am a big fan but I want to ask Connecticut school teachers just how much do you love the Patriots? Do you love them enough to risk your Connecticut teachers’ pension? Would you watch every minute of every game this season if you thought watching all of the games meant you could lose your retirement plan? I hope you wouldn't.
Patriots vs. Pension. Are You Fully Vested in Both?
You are substantially vested in both. If you are just an average NFL or New England Patriot fan you are probably watching the Patriots on TV for at least three hours each Sunday in addition to any pregame or postgame shows that get you even more excited about your favorite team. And then there are the two other NFL games that same day. Many Patriots fans will watch all three network NFL games each Sunday. If you are one of these fans then I’d say you are fully vested in the season. But how much time do you think about or work toward your teachers’ retirement plan each week?
Why Would I Put Time Into My Retirement Plan?
The Connecticut Teachers Retirement Plan is grossly underfunded and is over $9billion in debt. Your Connecticut teachers’ pension is in a crisis and almost no one knows it or isn’t willing to talk about it. Take a close look at the US economy and where it’s headed. Then educate yourself on Connecticut’s financial status. Connecticut is currently in the worst financial position of all 50 states. Connecticut has $10 billion is assets to cover over $63 billion in debts. Your teachers’ pension is largely being funded by tax dollars but this is not sustainable for much longer.
How Can I Help My Retirement and Pension?
The absolute best way to help yourself is to become educated on the status of your Connecticut teachers' pension and then ask how did this happen. The answer is very simple. After learning the facts you should put an action plan in place that I will help you with. You can begin to make a significant difference in just a few short days. Once you see that you are making a difference you won’t want to stop!
How Long Will This Take?
The Connecticut Teachers’ Retirement System is in a crisis and I don’t know exactly how much time we have. But I do know that in less than half the time it takes to watch two NFL games each week you can take matters into your own hands while maintaining your employment as a teacher. In a few months you will feel much better that you have taken the necessary steps to correcting your retirement plan. Your retirement plan can be in a lot better financial position than it is in now. Nothing will make you feel better than knowing you have a plan B when your pension crashes. And yes, you will still have time to watch your Patriots each week and with a bigger smile on your face every time the Patriots score.
Thanks so much Shawn, You might be right about the Packers this year. Pats vs Pack would make for a cool Super Bowl though!
Smile on my face;) Nice article. Looks appealing too, as in nice formatting but also great idea putting Question and Answer form!
Glad you liked it Cynthia. Thanks for your comments and compliments!
AJ, I like a good NFL game on TV as much as anyone else but many of us are guilty of overdoing it. Especially when it is so important to start our plan B. Goodbye pensions, hello new economy. Connecticut teachers should start now to avoid the pension crisis and so should everyone else for that matter.
Such a sad state we are in isn't it. When we cannot even expect to get the pensions that we pay into our entire lives. All security has left the employment world including the old expectations. The process of going to school, getting a job, working hard, and retiring when you are 60 is not a reality any longer. There is something you can do about it and I do think everyone should be looking into PLAN B (as Joan states) and taking their own future into their own hands...
Yes Kyle it is sad that promised pensions are soon over but you are right that starting a plan B and taking matters into one's own hands is the way to go. The new economy will not care about pensions of the past. Thanks for reading and commenting Kyle!
I think so Joan but I think California gets more bad publicity because they too are in bad shape but California ismore in the spotlight. I hope those in Connecticut and California jump on their plan B. Thanks for reading Joan
