Saving Money By Cooking at Home

If you're like me, it's not always easy to cook at home. You get home after a long day at work, the kids need help with homework, it's just so much easier to order pizza or go out. I get it, I've done that all too often. I didn't realize exactly how much I was spending on food each month until I started budgeting a couple of months ago. It's amazing how much you can save. Plus saving money by cooking at home isn't that difficult. By couponing, watching for sales, and planning you will be able to accomplish this.

I know what you're thinking, clipping coupons takes a lot of time and can be overwhelming. You're right, it can be. It can also be well worth it. There are also customer loyalty programs that offer the use of digital coupons. No clipping necessary. Dillons (Kroger) is one store that offers this option. You can go to their website and chose different coupons to add to your loyalty card digitally. The savings are automatically deducted when you scan your card at the checkout. There are also sites that allow you to search for savings on certain brands. These sites make it simple to print only the coupons you will use.

Be sure to watch for sales in both ads that are mailed out and in the Sunday paper. You may not be able to find a coupon for your favorite lunch meet. If you check the ads you may find that your local store is running a sale on it. They may also be running a fuel points special if you purchase certain items.

Couponing and using sales become a lot easier when you plan. I plan out my meals for the week on the weekend. I then look on the Dillons website to see if they have digital coupons for anything on my list. I grab the ads to see if there is a sale on the remaining items on my list. If both are available, I compare to see what saves me the most.

By planning, couponing, and watching for sales you save money on your groceries. That money adds to the savings you achieve by cooking at home. When I started cooking at home more, I noticed the savings within a couple of weeks. Follow the tips outlined above and you will be on your way to saving money each month.
