Give Someone A Chance

You will never know what someone is capable of if you don't give them a chance. I will acknowledge that you may risk quite a lot giving someone a chance but you may gain so much more if you do. Sometimes you just never know and the one you thought was perfect may turn out to be the worst.

What is really on my mind for this particular type of chance is with a job, but you can apply the principle to other things in you r life as well. Being out of work for any length of time is a major stressor for anyone. Especially with our economy in the shape that it is in. Prices go up but salaries stay the same. I am not an employer, but I have been in a position where I was responsible for hiring employees. I realize skills are very important as well as attitude and professionalism.

Most people looking for work will learn and adapt to their new work environment within a few weeks. They may even exceed your expectations. But if you don't give someone a chance to prove themselves as a valuable employee you will never know and may pass up someone who would have been more loyal and dedicated for someone who looks good on paper. Now having a precise resume is very important. It is a picture of what you have done, know how to do already, but it does not show what you are capable of doing.

Experience comes only with doing. No matter how you look at it. You won't get experience if you never do the work, or no one gives you a chance to do it. I realize employers will go with the best fit for the job skills, and work place. But sometimes there may be that one person who has the work place fit but not all the required job skills. If you never give that person a chance they will not know what they are capable of either.

The whole point to this article is that sometimes maybe you should take a chance on that less skilled worker or person in your life who does have some of the qualities you are looking for. Give them a shot, trust me they will appreciate it and probably do a better job for you and your company then the worker who looks good on paper or the one who talks a good game. But make sure they understand you are giving them a chance and what is required of them. They just may surprise you, yes the one you least expected.
