Holistic Treatment for ADHD- Treating Your Body and Not Your Symptoms

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is the single most over diagnosed medical condition. Each year far more children are prescribed to drug treatments than truly need them. Not only can these medicines carry harsh side effects, but they only treat the symptoms of hyperactivity and inattention meaning that once you are off the drug your problem comes back possibly worse than before. Treat your whole body and not just the symptoms with holistic treatment for ADHD.

Holistic treatments work by the theory that your whole body needs healing, not just your symptoms. These remedies attack the source of the problem and not just the surface issues.

Holistic Treatment for ADHD

Nutrition: Processed foods and preservatives are thought to be a huge contributor to the symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity. Counter act these substances by providing your child with mostly whole or fresh foods. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins work the best. Avoid any food or drinks with red dyes in them (check the ingredients) and basically make sure that a balanced diet is provided. Too much sugar and salt is not advised either.

Enough Play time?- The human body is designed for movement. A sedentary lifestyle of watching TV or playing video games will leave a kid restless and wound up. The most effective holistic treatment for ADHD is to make sure that your child gets a minimum of an hour of rigorous exercise a day. Make sure that you are encouraging your child to stay fit in order to maintain the right amount of daily exercise and play.

How Does Your Child Sleep?- Childhood sleep apnea and other bed time problems will also lead to ADHD symptoms. Just like with nutrition if the body is not being properly rested it will not act as it should. Monitor your child’s sleep for a few days to make sure that they are getting to sleep and staying rested.

Too much fidgeting, moving around and loud snoring may be depriving your child of the rest that they need. Try spraying lavender extract on their pillow to induce sleepiness and check with your doctor if you feel that some type of sleeping disorder is present.

Homeopathic Remedies- All Natural substances that lead to better overall health and balance to the body. Your mind and body are said to run like a well oiled machine. Kava, German Chamomile and Algae have been effectively used as holistic treatment for ADHD.

Drug treatment is when synthetic medicines are used to relieve or “mask” your symptoms. They are still there, but you’re numb to them when taking medication. Holistic treatment for ADHD uses all natural substances to restore balance to the body for better all around functioning. There are no dangerous side effects so try natural methods before you try prescription medication.
