How much time do you spend thinking about how to accomplish your dreams? Have you noticed that some people have a dream of something they want to do and then they pursue it relentlessly. Last week I was reading an article about Camila Batmanghelidjh, who is well known in the UK for founding two charities – “The Place to Be” and Kids Company, a charity which since it started has supported more than 14,000 vulnerable and damaged children and young adults providing them with an opportunity to turn their lives round. Camila, who is well known for her boundless energy and enthusiasm, knew very early on that her role in life was to do something special and help people and she turned that dream into a remarkable reality and has given children opportunities to fulfil dreams that they nor anyone else had previously thought possible.
So what are your dreams? Too often people wait for some magic to happen or they say they’re waiting for the right time to pursue their dreams, even though in their heart of hearts they probably know there is no right time. So delay no further. Start making your dreams come true today by developing a personal development plan.
List your current skills. Look at your current skills in all aspect s of personal development. How do your current skills match with the goals you want to achieve? Identify where you have skills gaps .
Set personal development goals. Looking at the gaps you have identified, decide what you need to do to gain these new skills and priorities which you want to attack first.
Identify “roadblocks” or barriers. One of the reasons why some people don’t achieve their goals, is because they haven’t identified any issues that could impact on their progress.
Use a personal development plan template that fits your goals and personal style. There are different plans that are free to download or you can make up your own. Fill it in, with clear goals about what you want to accomplish.
Check in with your plan regularly. It you’re going to make the most of your plan you need to check it regularly. That might be on a daily or weekly basis. Note where you are. Each day you should be doing something towards reaching those goals.
Summary
Creating and implementing a personal development plan to turn your dreams into goals and achievements is not difficult. You just have to start. So decide exactly what you want to work on, find a suitable plan and start today.
