Overcoming Fear to Living A Full Satisfying Life

It's so common to not attempt something when you are feeling fear. Most of the times though, fear is an irrational emotion because you worry about what may happen from your attempt but is unlikely to occur anyway. Fear can be easily overcome unless you've had a traumatic experience before. Even then, should you let fear govern what you experience in life? Facing and overcoming fear is essential to living a full satisfying life.

Why is overcoming fear essential to lead a full life?

Have you ever thought of going bungee jumping but you're afraid of heights or free falling? Have you always wanted to travel to another country but fear riding in an aeroplane (don't laugh, some people do have fear of travelling in an aeroplane)? If you've always wanted to try something new but fear stops you from doing it, then you're missing out a lot on life. And I'm sure you don't want to live to regret for not having done something you've really wanted to when the opportunity rises.

It doesn't have to be big things to do either. It could be as mundane as travelling on your own to another state, or going out on a blind date. Imagine all the wonderful first experiences and quirky adventures you can enjoy by overcoming your fear.

Overcoming fear can change your life in an instant

For me, overcoming fear is something that have given me so much bliss in life. I've experienced working in another country before on my own. I've travelled all the way to the opposite side of the world alone to meet my husband (my then online boyfriend) and his family in flesh for the first time. I've also quit a steady job to do that. Believe me when I say I'm the most scaredy-cat person you'll ever meet. I wasn't and still am not a fan of uncertainties and instability but sometimes making a decision to do something despite your fear gives you a reward beyond your imagination.

I'm happily married now (I wouldn't be if I had decided to not to hop on that plane alone) and had the best experiences travelling alone, all that 17410 kilometres or 10818 miles to meet my husband. I've gained lots of knowledge from working in a different country and also know that not having a job is not the worst thing that can happen in life.

Overcoming fear applies to doing business and making decisions to lead a life out of the norm. If you want to work for yourself, then make a plan, quit your job and take calculated risks if you have a fear of failing. If you have always wanted to try paragliding, then take lessons and do it. At least once you've done it, you know what it's like even if you find it's not for you. In the end, you won't have the regret of 'why didn't I try when I could' but you'll realise that you've done everything you thought you'd like and know that you'd led a fuller life than many who don't do anything because of fear.

Courage is truly about doing something even when you're so scared you think you'd pass out. Time does not wait for you and you've only one opportunity to experience LIFE. Overcome your fear today for a full satisfying life without regrets.

Thanks Rob. Fear is a great motivator for me. I used to hate it though, still do sometimes. But we've all got to face it to be better people.

Well done you! I love the acronym FEAR: False Expectations Appearing Real. I also live by the saying : feel the fear and do it anyway! I think it affects us all.... the trick is to not let it affect our life! Great article. I did enjoy it!

Thanks C4rmen for the nice comment. Courage was difficult indeed to find but it gets easier once you face your first BIG fear. Then the rest should be easy. I hope that people won't let fear stop them from doing fun things and experience what life can offer. Thanks again! Oh btw, let me know how your paragliding goes. :)
