It saddens me when I see someone who is unable to deal with the problems of every day life. On the extreme end is the alarming suicide rate that we currently witness. It saddens me that so many people choose a permanent solution to what is only a short term problem.
On the other end of the spectrum, and much more common, are people who are bogged down by the everyday valleys of life.We all go through trials on a day to day basis, and it is important that we know how to cope with our issues. One way that I have found to effectively do this is by putting things into proper perspective.
When we put things in proper perspective we have a more enlightened view of our circumstances. Often times when we are going trough hard times, we see only the circumstance. Our problems can seem endless at the moment and it drives us into making brash decisions because they seem to be our only choice.
In this article, I'm giving you a few ways to put your problems into proper perspective. With this article you will find your problems and day to day trials to be much more bearable. Hopefully by the end of this article you will start looking at your problems from the grand scheme of things.
Your issues only occupy a small portion of time
When you are going through something, that issue seems like it is taking a lifetime. It is hard to step back to see how little a day is in the overall scheme of our life. However when we take a step back, we will see that our issues will mean very little to us in the scope of our entire lives.
You have your entire life ahead of you, you must understand that the majority of the issue that you face now will be meaningless down the line. You will have separate troubles that will require more attention than what you are going through now. But likewise, you will have good moments that trump the current bad ones.
When you find yourself being bogged down by current issues, ask yourself, what effect will this have on me 5 years from now? 10 years from now? We all have some issues that felt too heavy but we now look back at them and shrug it off. Think about that high school break up you had that tore you apart. How important is it now?
The world is much bigger than your problem
When we have a taxing trial, we feel like we are center of the world. Even more, we can feel like we are the only ones on the planet. We feel physically trapped in the circumstance.
The world is so vast. When we feel are troubled by our environment we forget just how big the Earth is. We often feel that there is no where to go when in actuality, there are countless other places you can be.
Even when you do not have the means to relocate, just knowing that the world is bigger than your problems is comforting. You have the freedom to change environments, and even if you choose not to, you can feel relieved. Its good knowing that you are not trapped.
When you are getting bogged down in your individual problems, think about how vast the world is. An issue where you are having is quite possibly having no impact on the other side of the globe. Remember this when you are faced with what seems to be a huge challenge.
Many would love to be in your shoes
No matter how bad your situation is, you can always find someone who has it worse than you. I know its a humbling experience to see people who have it much worse than you when you thought that your situation was bad.
Appreciate the fact that you have what you have. To have internet and the ability to read this article is a privilege, - a privilege that countless people around the world do not enjoy. I always was amazed by how fortunate I am in America. Even when I compare the poverty here to the poverty in other countries, even the poverty isn't as bad. It makes me thankful for what I have.
Take the time to appreciate your situation, because it could be worse. Think about the people who have it even worse than you. Think about those who don't have the privileges that you do. It will help you see that your situation is not as bad as you think.
In the grand scheme of things, it's for the better
When we are going through our troubles, we often fail to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We lose perspective because we only see what we are going through and not the end result. We can only see the hard work and not the pay for our hard work.
Know that the trials that you face today will make you stronger down the line. The bad times that we face today will make the good times that we will enjoy later even sweeter. After all, you can't truly appreciate the good times if you haven't had bad times.
So start thinking in the grand scheme of things. Think of the final product - don't think so much of the process. By doing this, it will help alleviate some of the pain you face from whatever you're going through.
So I challenge each of you to start putting things into perspective. When you do, you will find that the problems you face are not as bad as you think. You will have higher morale when you face these problems, and eventually you will overcome them. After all, we do control our misery.
If you have a problem that you do think is too big - seek professional help; there is no shame in that.

Thanks for the kind words Pete! And I certainly don't mean to to belittle anyone's problems. As humans there are going to feel overwhelmed by our circumstances at one point of the other. However, the key is to not dwell on them. To an extent, our problems are only as big as we make them.
