We all have it, an amazing tool that can be used to create whatever we choose in life…our minds! But how often do we actually have state of mind control?
State of Mind refers to a temporary feeling or mood. It acts like a filter that we perceive our own world through. Depending on the feeling we have at any given time determines to a large extent our experience. If we just let our emotions run our state of mind, we are quite often left to the ups and downs of life’s events, never really feeling stable or secure.
Being able to control your state of mind is of such vital important because it puts you in the driver seat of your life direction by having the ability to consciously decide the thoughts you have and the resulting actions you take. And our thoughts and actions produce the results we see in our lives.
For instance if I see TV report about the hardships of people caused by the economy downturn, I could start to feel all ‘doom and gloom’ and that there is no possible hope of certainty in this market. Or I could not buy into the emotion and instead use my mind to create for me opportunities for growth using a positive attitude and creativity.
I like to see how quickly I can ‘flick the switch’ from a negative fearful state to one that is more balanced and calm. The best way I know how to do this is to mentally remove myself from the moment with a deep breath and view the situation from an outside perspective. This puts me back in control.
But how do we do this if the kids are screaming, we’re running late to an appointment, being spoken to harshly or just plain stuck in traffic??
As with anything it takes practice to gain control over our state of mind. But by continuously catching yourself you create the opportunity to consciously change your thoughts and feelings about an event. With an open mind we can gain new perspectives and this always has the potential to provide deeper learnings and meaning.
When we have control of our state of mind we have the ability to step out of reactionary behavior and into the power that balance and strength of character provide.
Everything in this world first starts as a thought so I encourage you to paint the picture of your own successes. Challenge yourself to catch the moments and learn to control your powerful tool….state of mind.
Your stories, comments and feedback always welcome.
I like your thought of making a conscious decision to put yourself back in control. Taking responsibility, even for our own reactions and emotions, is definitely a position of power. Thank you for your great article C4men.
