Your time is valuable, even more valuable than money, so I thank you for taking the time to read my article and commenting below.
Dreams and Goals, what’s the difference? I am sitting here reflecting on my dreams and goals and wondering how many people know and understand what these are and more importantly do they have dreams and goals? What are your Dreams and Goals?
My dreams are bigger than my goals. My goals are stepping stones to my dreams. My dreams won’t be accomplished if I don’t set the goals that take me in that direction. Are you living your dreams? Are you working toward your dreams, by setting goals? You have to ask yourself and reflect on the answers.
Think about when you were a child and dreamed of becoming an astronaut or a firefighter or a queen or world traveler. That took imagination didn’t it. What happens to that imagination? I know that for me, I let others dictate my dreams or decided that I couldn’t accomplish it anyway so why try… or that ultimate dream killer, “Keep your head out of the clouds” statement or “keep your feet on the ground” or “make sure your dreams are realistic” or “only a few in life can accomplish that”... there are many more. I stopped having that attitude and listening to “those” people and started to create an environment for working toward my dreams.
My wife and I talk about our dreams as a couple, and I believe that is important. The dreams we hold as a couple, like places to live and to travel, or creating scholarships/opportunities and anonymous giving (my wife refers to these as R.A.K (Random Acts of Kindness)) play into and influence my personal dreams and goals. Doing this I believe is one of the tools that strengthens our friendship. Since we are a team it’s important that we share this and work toward it as a team. Now there are different routes to our dreams, or different stepping stones (goals). But her goals and mine, are in line with our dreams as a couple. Often her ideas spark new ideas in my goals and create energy for me to keep working toward mine and vice versa.
If you are already living your dreams, and working on the next level of dreams for yourself, then I want to share a philosophy I learned about. If I am at a plateau of learning or I am in a rut, or stagnant, I share. I think of it as two glasses of water, if I am full I can’t fit anymore in there, so I have to share it, or pour into others, and that will make room for more in me. The more I share and pour out, the more capacity I have and the bigger I get. With that I have more capacity to help more people and receive more, so the cycle will continue to grow, and grow others capacities but it’s important that I learn and grow first so that I have ideas and information to pour into others.
ACTION - it’s this part that makes the biggest difference when it comes to accomplishing my goals and working toward my dreams. I have to act on my ideas and work hard toward my goals to make my dreams come true. Without action, it’s just words on paper, thoughts in my head. It is this action that is more important than the dream itself. Because the action I take and the lessons I will learn along the way will be far more valuable than the dream. I heard that the graveyard is the richest place on earth, as it is full of ideas and dreams that were never acted on. Just think if some of those thoughts, ideas, inventions, and so on would have been acted on and followed through with, what would the world be like now? I don’t know, but it is interesting to me to think about.
If you have never sat and thought about your dreams and goals, I hope that this article may have helped. If it did, please take action. I have an ACTION PLAN so, feel free to take a look and get ideas for yourself.
