“Listen to me!” your unconscious mind is saying. “Listen to me!”
I liken this to the little voice in my head that can be discredited often for baseless chatter or self talk. Background noise. Just thoughts everyone has.
“Remember that experience that caused you so much anger?” your unconscious mind is asking. Oh yes, I remember. Why did I have to think about that now? Fret and worry… yes it still makes me hopping mad to think about it! It was just wrong! Oh I feel bad about that still (and here we’re entering into the agitated anger state to prove it’s still a trigger for us). Stuff it down again. I don’t want to dwell on that! I don’t want to deal with it. I don’t know how!!! I don’t want to shoulder this burden!
“OK”, your unconscious mind obligingly says and squirrels away the memory, neatly tucking the black bag of associated anger and other emotions back into your body. “Another time perhaps?”
And so life goes on. The unconscious mind chooses a moment that it feels is convenient to present some negatives that are stored in the body. It hopes for resolution and if it doesn’t get any it puts them away again for a time. It may even store the next experience in the body in the same place since the emotions match quite well.
Does it matter that there’s a few crackling shorts between neurological connections in the body? We have billions of them and can work around things being a little jammed up, surely?
Sooner or later the unconscious mind reaches a point of frustration and starts trying a little harder to make us listen. After all, storing this “stuff” goes against one of its prime directives which is to protect the body.
“Won’t listen?” it says. “Listen to this!”
Man! My shoulder is playing up! Need some help for my neck. Owww! What a kink, I must have slept on it wrong...
Perhaps the easiest way to understand this concept is to think about where you store your tension or stress. Many people store it in their neck and shoulders, buttocks or even digestive system. If you’re really good at it, like me, than you can put a bit in all those places AND at the same time!
Or, you can slowly and surely learn to listen to your body. Learn to let go of “stuff” in whatever way you choose is best for you.
Heather, I had a few minutes this morning before heading out the door and wanted to revisit some of my favorite articles... Thanks again for this one!
Thank you Sherry! I'm honoured you thought of this one. Hope your day went wonderfully.
OHHH Yes, that neck shoulders and lower back....but also my inner ego is hurt. My Acupuncturist and Massage Therapist agrees. I have them and a plastic inflatable clown doll to cope....giggles
Whatever helps Jesse! The great thing is that you've found help and are doing something about it! Awesome stuff! ;-)

So true! Yeah we really need to loosen up if we want to be physically pain free. Funny how stress can cause an ache to your body! Sometimes we all need to listen to that voice, accept it and make peace/let it go so we can be happy and healthy. Thanks for the article!
Our body definitely speaks to us. We should all listen more! Thanks again, Ai Hoon.
Oh Aj... while I understand your comment it's a horrible thought to me! ;-) Your unconscious mind is the magnificent you! It's not the thoughts but rather the negative emotions you still have attached to the memories. Truly the purpose of your Unconscious mind is to bring wholeness back to the body. Try thanking your unconscious mind for bringing these things to your attention and asking for guidance to know how to release what isn't serving you any more. Smiles!
Great article about the subconscious. I see there are times that my subconscious mind is bringing things to the surface of my experience. This article definitely increased my awareness of why certain things are coming up. Thank you.
I'm glad you found it helpful, Queenie. I was talking about this today with a friend and saying how difficult it was to put such a big topic into a few words. We agreed that even raising an awareness of the subject is worthwhile. Everyone has to make sense of these things in their own way and their own time. Good luck with it all.
Great way to connect the dots. And love the F.E.A.R. acronym.
Thanks zenphitness. It's a good acronym and helpful to remember at certain times when I need a confidence boost!
