The forthcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is expected to showcase the much expected software of Apple iPhone 5 and operating system, iOS 6. Users all around the world who have been waiting impatiently for the launch of iOS 6 can expect it soon, as revealed by trustworthy sources. Apple is releasing iOS 6 through iPhone 4S and the new IPad at WWDC which would be shortly followed by beta version of the operating system. When iOS 6 would be re-released with iPhone 5 later this year, users are likely to expect some improvements to it. The iPhone 5 release, approximately three months away, will give Apple some time to gauge and analyze consumer feedback to come up with a better iOS 6.
Let’s do a study on the five improvements that iOS 6 users would like to have along with iPhone 5.
1. Upgraded Siri
Although branded as a beta product by Apple, user feedback on Siri has been mostly negative. People have often complained about its limitations. The voice recognition software has been reported to work well only with Apple’s apps and not the third party ones. Suggestions have come forth to make use of Siri for tasks like switching off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which is otherwise cumbersome. It’s difficult toggling with these settings on the iOS. If the functionality of Siri is applied to these settings, tasks would be much well-organized and user-friendly.
2. More Widgets for ease of access
There are only two widgets on iOS in the notification center, unlike Android devices wherein there are lots that provide faster accessibility and browsing. With Android becoming increasingly popular, it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple users demand iOS 6 to be equipped with more widgets. The iOS homescreen should have more widgets than the notification center. Apps for daily usage like calendar, a quick dial bar and Tweetbot on the homescreen would speed-up accessibility quite a lot.
3. Easier way to delete notifications
The present notification window, though relatively better than the one on previous version of iOS, needs refinement. The ‘X’ symbol on right side of each notification sometime makes it difficult to delete them. Replacing the ‘X’ with modern functionalities like double tap or left-to-right swipe can ease up the task of erasing each notification while a ‘shake’ functionality can be used for multiple deletion on iOS 6.
4. Improved App Interaction
The ‘Services’ feature on Mac OS is very useful for inter-app communication. Suppose you want to select part of a text from the browser and share it with your peers on Facebook or mail it across. Imagine how easy and fast it would be just by the touch of a button. The iOS has no feature like this unlike its Android counterpart. On Android, you can do this directly through the Facebook app. Incorporating an equivalent of the ‘Services’ feature on iOS would be of great help to the users.
5. Multiple E-mail signatures
Users often need to use different signatures for sending mails to different people. The current iOS does not allow this. It allows only one signature that is pinned onto every mail. With every new mail being composed, the user would definitely like to have a choice of more than one signature appear on the mail composition window or tab. An option like this would be a welcome change especially for business people.
Apple is known to make changes and refinement to its product every year. All their products are made better with every new version. In accordance with this practice, the launch of iPhone 5 will be no different. Both the hardware and the software components will be upgraded. As iOS 6 is being launched prior to iPhone 5, people will expect the operating system to receive a makeover in certain areas along with the new device.
