A virtual war seems to be brewing on the horizon. With the expected launch of tablet computer on Wednesday by Amazon, the competition seems to be getting tougher.
The tablet computer launch by Amazon seems to compete with Apple’s iPad. Who will be able to outsmart the other? Can Amazon’s tablet capture the market or will iPad still continue to prevail?
Just like its rival Apple’s ability to sell content based merchandise, Amazon also has uniqueness in its approach. Amazon has the ability to sell content which will suit its tablet. A reminder could be your Kindle which assists you to buy your merchandise from Amazon.
To launch its tablet on Wednesday, it will be holding an event with its CEO in New York. This was confirmed by Seattle based Amazon.
When Apple introduced iPad, it created an entirely new product category. Many tired to emulate it, but success was lacking. Some analyst predicts that out of every 4 tablet sales this year, 3 would be the iPad.
It’s believed that Amazon’s tablet would be be available in two sizes – 7 inches and 10 inches. The 7 inches tablet would be slightly bigger compared to Kindle e-reader whereas 10 inches tablet would be bigger in comparison to iPAD.
To entice customers, Amazon could price its tablet much lower than the iPAD. This is on the belief, that when owners make their purchase through the tablet, Amazon will be able to get back its money. Apple’s iPAD which stands at around $ 500 is amongst the least priced among its product range.
There were a couple of companies that tried to make its mark. One is Barnes & Noble. Last year it launched its Nook Color e-reader. This e-reader accepts third party applications, and runs on Android operating system. But, this is mostly viewed as an e-reader rather than a tablet like iPAD.
Second one is Sony Corp’s iPAD style tablet. This is not only linked to company’s online store, but also setup to use its library of Play Station games. Whatever Sony has tried, its yet to match up its rival Apple’s iTunes store.
The question on every one’s mind will be what strategy Amazon is using to win customers. What features will it offer in its tablet to outsmart iPAD.
For the moment the Amazon tablet and the iPAD seem to be on a level playing field. Time itself will tell if Amazon can dent Apple’s lead. Till then the much awaited launch is what people will be waiting for?
Good luck Amazon!
