Windows 8 tablets would be out in 2012. Will it out do the Kindle?
Fire tablet
All the news which I’ve read so far about the Amazon’s Kindle has put it in the league of other tablets already existing in the market. Although Windows 8 tablet would be out only next year, Microsoft cannot be discounted.
Will buyers be eager for this?
When you buy something with your hard earned cash, many factors come into play. Some of the points that would be considered are the overall look and feel, aesthetics, price, weight of device, memory, life of the battery etc. Just going by user interface will not be the deciding factor for Windows 8. And we still don’t have any further details to evaluate it against the existing players.
Portability is my top most evaluation criteria for a tablet. The tablet should be easy to carry around. Battery should be able to deliver 8 hrs plus performance. This negates the need to carry power cords. And logging in and shut down should also be swift.
That was the prime reason I went in for an iPAD last year. Had the Amazon Kindle been in the market that would have been on my evaluation list, and may be could have been in my possession as well instead of the iPAD.
Proto type tablet which Microsoft seems to be developing doesn’t look very competitive compared to the 7 inch Amazon’s Kindle. Rumors are rife that tablet user irrespective of who they are; would prefer sleek and lighter devices. Even though any beta version of Windows 8 tablet is not available, sleek and lighter devices are what users will look forward to.
Irrespective of how many vendors enter the market, and what price they offer, Microsoft seems to be in no hurry to enter the market with Windows 8. Also, the competition posed by Kindle and iPAD should not be a big obstacle to overcome.
Kindle’s $200 price tag should not bother them much; as it looks they can easily match up to that price of the tablet.
Amazon’s Kindle seems to have opened up the battle field. To steal the market, Microsoft needs to deliver a truly worthwhile product with Window 8. The only fact that is available is using Windows Live id; users can log into Windows 8. This will enable them to sync their data across Window8.
Wildcard which Microsoft could use is it’s Sky Drive. Here users could be given the option to store unlimited photos and documents. This could be their trump card to start with!!
