Earlier this week, the Social Media titan, Facebook announced Graph Search (the Beta version). The update is an extension to the search option on the portal. Currently, we are open to search only the likes, photos, and limited data. But, this option views to enhance our search experience with an extensive tool. The product will allow you to search for status updates, and other text contents, in addition to the current options.
However, this time someone is much ahead than Facebook. Your Trove, a social search engine crawls Facebook content completely, which includes status search, photo captions, and other textual data. The Facebook Graph Search is still not live.
Jesse Emery, Co-founder and Chief Identity Officer at Your Trove revealed the difference between what Facebook is doing, and what his company has done. Read below for a comparative analysis between the two:
Graph Search: the different between Facebook and Your Trove – For those who think there aren't any different between the two, they are wrong! According to Jesse Emery, there exist huge differences between these two.
1. Facebook – When you search for a query on Facebook, say “Friends who liked Titanic?” the search will return your friends who liked the Titanic page. Facebook's Graph Search focus more on people or places/locals. FB return only photos.
2. Your Trove – This site, does complete text search and gives a detailed information showcasing the post and photo captions. Your Trove focuses more on user generated content. Your Trove gives a complete detail, showcasing photos, captions, and other meta data.
Strengths and Weaknesses (Graph Search) – The foremost and the biggest strength of Facebook's Graph Search is that when you compare current with the latest one, the latest is more detailed and interesting. For example if you search particular keyword like "software development company" of any region. It will show you the results of all development companies nearby. You can call it as an 'interest-based' breakthrough. However, when it comes to weakness, the most obvious is that it does not display comments, links, posts (in short text content). Also, Facebook's Graph Search will further fuel businesses or page admins to try various tricks and aggressive marketing to get noticed and earn likes. This can be one of the biggest weaknesses of all (more on the strength and weakness, after the option goes live).
User reaction to this – The latest change or improvement will be welcomed by many, simply because it is an improvement and an addition to make things interesting. However, questions might arise on privacy settings (which is the biggest concerns of all).
Speaking on this update, Jesse Emery stated that this Facebook update will not impact Your Trove.
How will Your Trove amaze its users in 2013?
Your Trove, a social search engine is working on several things to offer an enhanced user experience. The company is beta testing Tumblr as an add-on service. You can expect an addition to Your Trove, where you will be able expand your search on both Facebook and Tumblr.
This and a lot more functionalities are expected from Your Trove in the months to come.
