Some life cycles in insects and animals can be intresting, however the bed bug life cycle isn't all that fascinating. I am only writing about a bed bugs life cycle because I think it's important for people who are dealing with bed bugs to understand their cycle. Bed bugs are horrible little pests and understanding their life cycle can help you combat them before they grow and reproduce into hundreds! We don't want that see here I will explain to you the little vampires life cycle.
The very first stage of a bed bugs life starts with an egg. A female bed bug will lay an egg pretty much anywhere within the bed that is hidden. The most popular place for them to lay eggs is inside the creases in a pillow case. So what do these eggs look like. Well for starters they are white and are about 1.5mm. They look like a rice grain but obviously much smaller. It has been said that the eggs can hatch between 6-17 days and a female lays at least 5-8 eggs a day.
Ok that was the very first stage of the life cycle. For the reminder of the article I will be bullet pointing the stages. This will make the article easier to read.
1.The next stage of the bed bug life cycle is called the first instar. They also go by the name of nymph, the nymph is about the same size as the egg so 1.5mm and in order to move onto the next stage they need a blood meal and then molt
2.The next stage in the cycle is called the second instar stage, the only difference here is that the little nymph has grown just a tiny bit to 2mm. So not a major change and again the bed bug needs a blood meal and to molt in order to move onto the next stage of its life cycle.
3.The next stage of the bed bugs cycle is called the third instar stage. Again the only difference is that the bed bug has again grown in size, now it's 2.5mm. As with the previous stage in order to move on it needs to feed and molt.
4.Moving onto the next stage again the only difference is that the bug has grown once again now it is 3mm so from the egg stage it has doubled in size. Same with the previous stage in order to move on in needs to feed then molt.
5.This is the last stage before the bed bug reaches adult stage so it isn't quite there yet, the bug has now grown to the size of 4.5mm, in order to move onto the adult stage you know the deal.
6.The final stage is the adult stage, this is the stage where females can now lay eggs. The bug is now 5.5mm in length
And that my friends is the bed bug life cycle
