Getting Rid Of Fleas Naturally!

You’ve tried everything and you still have fleas!

Pest control companies have taken your money and you’ve called them out to treat again. You have washed the dog, dipped the dog and force-fed the dog pills. At this point you would probably settle for getting rid of the fleas naturally or with nuclear weapons if necessary, just as long as they are gone. If you’ve ever felt this way, welcome to the club, if you live in the south these are not 3 month issues, but year round issues. And the problem is pest control companies will charge hundreds of dollars and their guarantee will last a few weeks typically. So in 30 days some companies will ask you to pay up again.

Why are Fleas so difficult to get rid of?

Begin by knowing the truth, the lawn, inside your home and your pet are to be treated at the same time. There are no shortcuts and missing a step is the #1 reason that people, like you get frustrated and annoyed. This shortcut is also the reason that pest control companies call this service the honey pot. They know if you are watching your pennies today that you will be spending your dollars tomorrow and do anything to get rid of these annoying little vampires. More on that in a moment, now that we know where to treat that is only half the battle. The life cycle of a flea makes it more difficult to eradicate than your average pest. Patience is the 2nd key to getting rid of these bloodsucking pests.

Enough of the Yoda training,..

Not so fast my young Padawan. It is not so easy killing 10,000 eggs, pupae and adults. We must realize that these vampires do not like the direct sunlight and heat. Shaded areas such as the doghouse or lawn structures that produce shade is where you will most likely find them in the yard. Focus in the shade and you will be more effective and save money. Apply lime just before a rain or water it in, it will dry out the bugs and your dog will thank you.

The inside of your home is where the rubber meets the road...

The area of concern is everywhere but especially any place the animal lays, eats or sleeps. These are the high risk areas where eggs could lay dormant for a year. Vacuum, and wash down everything that the pet touches. Wash anything that fits in washer in hot water and dry on highest setting. Seal the bag of the vacuum and send it outside immediately. Use lavender oil applied to cotton balls and place under furniture and in the high risk areas. Repeat these steps as often as necessary until the life cycle has been interrupted.

Is your pet still miserable?

Your special family member is about to thank you. Take a couple of lemons and cut them into quarters then drop them into boiling water and let them steep for a few hours. Then strain the liquid into a spray bottle. Spray the coat focusing under the legs and stomach of your pet. This is a natural repellant. The dog can and probably will lick their paws and its completely natural so enjoy. This application may take up to six weeks. If necessary sprinkle diatomaceous earth in areas where your pet may lay and that will dry out the exoskeleton of the flea and will kill them. It is completely harmless to us or your pet, you just vacuum it up every couple of days. If you stay the course, outside, inside and your pet in a few weeks you will see your pet begin to relax and your frustration will begin to slowly disappear and if patience is not your strong suit then let a pest control professional take care of it.
