With summer vacation time being just around the corner, I look forward to the arrival of my grand children visiting me for three weeks. Every year, the wife and I try to keep them amused and happy by scheduling a multitude of activities. We go hiking, to the movies, biking, to the zoo, swimming, etc. Although my grandson loves to do all of those things, his heart longs for a cat.
Last year, the emphasis was on fishing. They wanted to keep me at the fishing place for the entire day. I never liked to schedule the same activity on a back-to-back basis, however they were so excited, we had to modify our schedule in order to fit another day of fishing in. So be it, as long as they were happy and having fun, it was okay with me. Even though we did not catch any fish that would win a prize, they were okay with that.
No matter the activity, before the end of the day, my grandson would ask me to buy him a cat. Each time he asked I had tell him no, because his mother, my daughter, will not allow him to have one. Even though I have asked my daughter on numerous occasions, the answer is still no. I even offered to pay all cost relative to him owning a cat. The answer is still no.
In advance of their arrival, I am in the process of implementing a plan wherein my grandson will have access to a cat. Before embarking upon this mission, I thought it would be necessary to get permission from his mother. It was also necessary and proper to ascertain if she had any objections to the grand children being around a cat while on their visit. Everything met her approval. I just hope I am successful at my mission.
What I am about to say actually happened. Just before we walked out the door to visit a neighbor, my grandson asked me about a cat, at which time we just laughed, because we both knew the answer to that question. While on our way to the neighbor’s house, a cat appeared in our path. It was fortunate that I just happened to have my camera with me at the time. I had the camera because I was going to take some pictures of the kids while visiting the neighbor.
I hate to use the term “from out of the blue,” but from out of the blue, the cat appeared.
