Is it true that feeding organic coconut oil to your dogs, cats, or even ferrets is good for them? This is true because feeding the recommended dosage to your pets will help keep them strong and healthy. Coconut oil has the same benefits for our pets that it has for us humans. If you know anything about this miracle oil that comes from the tree of life, you will know what I mean.
We use it internally by consuming it through cooking or replacing it with our usual butters, oils, or spreads, and externally by applying it to the skin and hair. It can easily be given to our pets daily by adding it to their water bowl. Trust me, they won't even know it's there and if they do, they'll think it's a treat of some kind. The recommended amount is 1/4 teaspoon for every 10 pounds of weight, twice per day. Always start out slowly to ensure your pet is not allergic to it and slowly work your way up to the recommended amount.
When consumed regularly or used externally, it has many health benefits for us as well as for our pets. Here is a list of ways feeding coconut oil to our pets can benefits them:
- Helps to heal cuts, bruises, scrapes, and burns
- Good for digestion and treating certain digestive disorders
- Helps indigestion
- Prevent and treat diabetes
- Dental health - helps eliminate bad breath and good for the teeth
- Eczema and other skin conditions
- Ringworm and other fungal infections
- Treats yeast infections
- May decrease brain lesions in older dogs
- Helps to eliminate hairballs and coughing
When you see all the benefits when used by us, just imagine it having the same benefits for our pets. As organic coconut oil is good for our general wellness, it is also good for our pet's, too. It helps with their digestion, absorbing vitamins and nutrients, and can even heal certain digestive disorders like colitis and/or inflammatory bowel syndrome. It can help your pet with arthritis, give him more energy, and even reduce his weight if needed.
When used externally for our cats, dogs, or ferrets, it can help heal cuts, sooth dry skin or hair, help with bites and stings. It will also help reduce allergic reactions and clear up certain skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis. There are just so many health benefits with coconut oil for pets. If you're unsure, you can always check in with your pet's vet just to make sure.
As mentioned above, the recommended amount of coconut oil for pets is 1/4 teaspoon for every 10 pounds, given twice per day. Again, you want to start out slowly by giving your pet a small amount and then slowly work your way up to the recommended dose. As with any kind of food, your pet could have a food allergy and because this is a food and not a medicine, there are not side effects.
Trust me, I'm a believer of organic coconut oil and when I get my PUG, you better believe it's going to be in his water bowl!!
I don't have any pets at the moment, but it is certainly something to keep in mind. I use coconut oil pretty well every day. I even bought 20 lbs of organically grown dessicated coconut, which still retains its oil, which I add to so many dishes. Good info on this wonderful food!
