There are many natural flea killers out there that can be used just as effectively as chemicals. Actually there are some that are much better than any chemical not to mention being safer for our environment.
For an outside natural flea killer you can use Beneficial Nematodes. The beneficial nematode is usually used in organic farming because it controls larvae populations that can be harmful to crops. These worm like creatures will also kill flea larvae and egg stages of the fleas life cycle stages.
You can purchase beneficial nematodes at garden stores or on-line. You want to plan on introducing them into your outside environment in very early spring, before flea eggs have a chance to start hatching and starting their life cycles again. Flea eggs will hatch when the outdoor temperatures don't fall below 60-70 degrees at night.
For a natural flea killer on your pets, you can use garlic, orange or lemon peels and blue dawn dish soap. The garlic, which can be bought in the form of chewable tablets for your pet, changes the taste of your pets blood. The fleas don't like the way garlic makes the blood taste and will look somewhere else for their meal. If their isn't another meal for them they will starve to death within 24-48 hours.
Orange and lemon peels have essential oils in them that will help with preventing fleas but it won't kill them. All you need to do is take the peel of the orange or lemon and rub into your pets coat, getting as close to the skin as possible. Many people get confused with this method and think it's the juice of the orange and lemon but it's not. You can eat the orange or use the lemon for something else, all you are using is the peel!
Blue dawn dish washing soap is another popular natural flea killer. You would bathe your pet using the blue dawn dish soap in place of regular pet shampoo. You will need to let the blue dawn sit on your pets skin for about 10 minutes after you have made a thick lather on their coat. Make sure to rinse it completely out or it may leave your pets skin itchy and irritated.
For a natural flea killer inside your home, fill a few medium sized bowls with warm water. Pour dish soap into the water, a few squirts, don't mix the soap so it's sudsy, just let it fall to the bottom of the bowl. Put the bowls next to night lights that are plugged in an outlet near the floor at night. In the morning you will have a bowl full of dead fleas.
Table salt is another alternative to chemical products used for killing fleas. Spread the salt so it covers your carpets, making sure to get under furniture as well. Use a broom to push the salt down into the fibers of your carpets, you want to reach the egg and larvae stages of the flea as well. Leave the salt on your carpets for 24-48 hours, then vacuum your carpets. Make sure to change the bags in your vacuum when your done or clean out the canister of the bag less vacuums. The table salt gets caught up in the joints of the adult fleas eggs and eventually dries them out and kills them. It kills the larvae and eggs by dehydrating them and causing them to die.
